Fish oil supplements?

Is it okay to give your own fish oil supplement to your dog? Or is there too much fatty acids in one capsule for a dog? I ask because those fish oil supplements for dogs all seem very expensive. It would save a lot of money if I just gave one of my own and wrapped it in his food. If not, please recommend a good supplement.

The worst DOG-related book cover...

The worst DOG-related (training, behavior, etc.) book cover goes to... Karen Pryor's DON'T SHOOT THE DOG! It is AWEFUL! I guess it would have been too costly for the publishers to update the cover when they revised the book in 1999?! Man, if I didn't know anything about dog training or Karey Pryor, I'd take one look at this book in the store and never look back. (Yes, I know... never judge a book by its cover.)

Re: The worst DOG-related book cover...
I have that book and it is one of my favorites. I bought it before I was training much and now that I am training with Parole-A-Pet, I have found it very useful when working with the inmates.
Okay, but I wasn't being critical of the book. I was being critical of the book cover. I'll repeat: Yes, I know... never judge a book by its cover. But sometimes it's impossible not to... I think if it were a lesser book I wouldn't even be mentioning

Re: Remember When
We didn't have a television in our house until I was 5. It was, of course, black and white, and the station went off the air at midnight, after playing the national anthem and a poem about God; it came back on the air at about 6 a.m.
I couldn't help but to think of the movie POLTERGEIST when you said this. LoL. I just barely remember when TV would play the National Anthem. That must have ended maybe a few years or so after the movie came out

Re: What training method do you recommend....Why?
They were originally bred to be a versatile working dog, either herding or police/military. They are not an LGD, they do not guard/protect lifestock. They move and control the sheep, which is why they need to be correct size and structure, agile, and have a soild, courageous temperament (in order to run into 1000 sheep and bite one to get them all moving). GSDs that are too guardy and barrier aggressive are generally just GSDs that are bored and somewhat neglected,

Re: Anyone familiar with Kyra Sundance?
I have pretty much every trick book out there (I teach a tricks and games class). I think that DVD's in general are a good way to combine learning from books with the visuals that some people need. I must say that my favorite trick books are the ones by Mary Ray, the lady who dances with her dogs at Crufts. That being said, I just got Leslie McDevitt's four DVD series on Control Unleashed - the book was better, althought the tapes may help some people identify

Re: Urrrgh!!! (BlackLabbie)
I will say that while the man was a jerk, I don't find his having a small dog and being in an area where children happen to be is all that odd or alarming. Many men, contrary to popular belief, do actually like small dogs. And it may be that he was either visiting someone and needed a place to walk the dog, or lives nearby and just happened to be walking there.

I didn't mean to sound like he's a guy w/ a little

Anyone familiar with Kyra Sundance?

Kyra Sundance is a famous stunt and trick dog trainer. She authored a book you all are probably familiar with called 101 Dog Tricks . I'm thinking of getting her new seminar that is available at Tawzer Dog Videos. Has a 20% discount on it for the next two weeks over at the Tawzers. I haven't read the book, but only heard good things about it. I think the seminar would be worthwhile. I've often dreamt of a day I could train dogs for the movies. So anyone familiar with this particular dog

Re: Leash recommendations.
Hey you could just do this to your dog instead of using reflective materials: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090428/ap_on_re_as/as_skorea_cloned_dogs
Haha. That is funny. I wonder if that is real or not. What do you think of this leash I was just looking at. The reflective part is made of 3M Scotchlite™. I'm still going back and forth on reflective or leather. A leather would give more comfort level.
