Re: H1N1 vaccine

Just a quick response for Kim, the reason that come childhood diseases are remerging is not because vaccines stopped working. There is a certain percentage of the population that do not form antibodies when vaccinated. I am a measles nonresponder and have been revaccinated several times and still my antibody levels are too low probably to form immunity. The spread of the disease generally happens in pockets of people who do not vaccinate their children, and occasionally spread to a poor soul who

Re: TMI Poll for moms: c-section or natural?

This is an interesting topic! It's like religion in medicine and I personally believe there is no better or best way. I'll tell you my thoughts as a physician and a friend/sister/etc. since I haven't had the joy yet of having a baby. A c-section is safer for the baby statistically, and a vaginal birth is safer for the mom. That's a little bit older data and they are probably a wash for mom's now and c-section is still safer for the baby. For the surgery literature, which is what

So you are more likely to have issues later in life with pee and poo.
Is it not true that age and physical fitness play a large part in this, and that older women who have never had children have also had pee/poo incontinence? Or am I thinking of pelvic floor problems, and are they not the same thing?
Nope it is an entirely different issue, the damage to the muscle of the sphincters has nothing to do with how fit you

Re: H1N1 vaccine

The debate is only with people who don't know much about medicine or immunology to be frank. Every single hospital in the country is vaccinating employees, includine my own. I was vaccinated on friday (got the regular flu vac on tuesday). if you are younger then 50 or high risk (sick or elderly) you should get it. It annoys me to no end when people say nonsensical things like they can prevent the flu via other ways. Uh...no you can't that's stupid. If you are exposed and not vaccinated

The debate is only with people who don't know much about medicine or immunology to be frank.
Again, the arrogance of the medical profession. Just like the Titanic couldn't sink.
lol the arrogance of Dr. Google. You are so right... you totally know more then the thousands of highly trained professionals who develop, test, and administer the vaccines. Uh, the titanic lol ok. It's so arrogant to want to save lives

Re: H1N1 vaccine

Jen did you look where that link is from, I'm sorry I can't help but laugh....naturalnews?? Hardly the fact mill is it. The points are just stupid too. Thiomersal is not used in most flu vaccines and is only in trace nearly undetectable levels in a few brands which the author isn't apparently aware of. Placebo trials?? Uh whoever wrote that clearly doesn't understand how we test because that is required lol. #9 just proves the author doesn't understand simple math. #7 made me

I'm glad you went in :) I'm sure it will come out fine

Re: Has anyone here had melanoma?

You should go see a doctor immediately and have a biopsy. It is an exceedingly uncommon place to have melanoma so I would not be worried about that, but there are some just as deadly things that present simmilarly on the breast (inflammatory breast cancer for example). Pagets disease of the nipple needs to be ruled out even though you are young. I saw five different patients this week in consultation for breast reconstruction who were all less then 33 years old. It's likely nothing, but in the

Re: IUDs?

The old rules were you had to be married and already had kids, but we now will do it on nulparious women and those who are not married, as long as you are in a committed relationship. Most insurance will cover it, but you can call your company to make sure. Your doctors office will likely be able to tell you if you call them if you can't figure out who to call (some insurance companies are like navigating through a maze to get the info you want).

Re: Smokers or X-Smokers?

My husband uses snuff,is it the same thing your talking about?
Is that what some people call chewing tobacco? I don't think it would much of an effect on lungs, but I've read in quite a few places that it has been the cause of mouth cancer, so it's not as safe as people think it is. Joyce
Yup Joyce, it's about as far from safe as you can get, it causes squamous cell cancers of the head
