Well, owning a breed that an "expert" who wrote a book on intelligence ranked 2cd from the bottom, every once in while I get someone who asks about that. I'm happy to let my dogs' stand on thier own merit. Brindlewonderkid has over 20 titles to his name, and most people (or their dog) can't really compete with that. I don't think I've every had anyone say anything hurtful about their looks.

I don't know what to say! OMG, Glenda. We're all thinking about you.

Bonita- Do you have a link or something? Actually, I think basenjis would fit nicely in a Primitive Group, but otherwise, they don't fit nicely anywhere.

I use cream cheese, but I always have to give everyone a taste.
The breed is described as cautious and discerning and not friendly with strangers, I just thought those traits would develop in adulthood. I am so afraid his behavior now will turn into aggression later. And I already have a reactive dog who can be aggressive in certain situations. I can totally see him biting a child one day. I can't even walk them together because they feed off each other's reactions. I am working on it, and making progress, but I don't

A friend once emailed me and asked me, a long time basenji-owner, how to get a dog to stop barking. What's even funnier is that I was able to offer some helpful solutions. And actually, one of my basenjis will yodel on request (basenjis never do anything on command). That's a HUGE hit at our therapy visits. Of course that's my brindlewonderkid. (And none of this is terribly on topic.)
How about a Schipperke? If I ever get a little dog, I'm getting one of those! An acquaintance has one that has over 88 different titles on her name! I call her the "mini-German Shepherd (without a tail)"
Pretty sure Schipperke is Flemish for "tiny Belgian Sheepdog"
That black mask marking is so common in random bred dogs that one is forced to conclude that either there are a lot of very busy GSDs in the world (plus a smattering of very fertile shar peis, black mouth curs, chows, Tervs, and Leos among others), or, that the trait is recessive. I favor the idea that it's a recessive trait. Breeds which have this trait usually breed true very quickly. For instance, it was only a couple generations after the Leonberger standard
