To color or not to color (alieliza)

I am going for a haircut later today. I am in the market for a drastic change. Currently, my hair is very long, a medium brown color. I have had layers in the past. Today I am going for a long layer cut, with lengthy side swept bangs, and am debating over whether or not to color my hair. I am thinking of a dark, espresso brown. I love love love dark hair, and think it will look really great. I only have a few reservations about coloring, mostly the upkeep. I have dyed my hair in the past, but haven't done so in about 8 years. I worry that when Im over it, because my hair is so long, it will take forever to grow out, but I almost feel like it'll be worth it if I keep up with it for a while.... Suggestions??

I will add some photos for reference...: Here you can see that espresso brown isn't that far off from my natural color.... You can also see that I *never* wear my hair down, and I'd like to start doing so. I am hoping that a new cut helps to push me in that direction.

Here you can see that the color is, indeed, not as dark as "espresso".

In this photo you can see the length of my hair now (and the need for a trim and a new 'do!).

I love the wavy layered look of Jennifer Aniston's hair. Also seen here and straighter here

    .

I also really love Jessica Simpson's hair here but I know that mine could never look that full and wavy even on my best day.

This is a bit more realistic.

And the color and cut that I envy the most are of Rachel Bilson. And excuse the racy shot, but this is the color I'm going for.

I think you should do it. Your roots won't be as  bad since your hair is already brunette...and if you want to grow it out...I think that whole two tone look is in now...lol.

I think you should do it. Ask your stylist how difficult it would be to take it back to the natural color if/when you got tired of upkeep. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be that hard to do.

Do it! I just colored mine last night with more strawberry highlights than usual and I love it. I talked about it with my hair cut girl for a bit first, so I think if you can talk about the color for a bit, you'll find the perfect darker shade for you.

I like the Bilson better than the Aniston...but the Asian cut is nice, too...oh...the color is great!

Maybe you should just cut it really short and go for a Rihanna look...lol.

I think that the Bilson cut and the dark, rich colour will be really nice on you!

I've been told that colouring your hair dark is better to do when young because it looks a little strange as we get older.  So, do it now!  It'll be awesome!

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the cuts. I like Jennifer Aniston's cut, but I kind of hate to see you go that short. You've got beautiful hair and I think a few inches longer than hers would be nice. The darker color won't be a huge stretch for you and I think it'll look very natural. Be sure to post pictures when you get it done.

Definitely do it, I think you will look really good with darker hair! Plus your roots won't be that noticeable, and when your ready to go back to your natural, you can always pick a color closest to your natural and dye it that, that way you won't really be able to tell it's growing out. Just got my hair two toned, light brown with my light light blonde color. I love it! I was so sick of just the blonde and needed a drastic change, I also got short choppy layers and long swept bangs, it's definitely different and away from the girlier me, but I really love it :)

Of course do it! Hair grows :) I always wonder about those boring people who never change their look. It's fun to change it up now and then. I've had my hair ever color, length, style and I still get bored lol. You will look great with any of those looks, they are all beautiful!

Thanks guys for all of your help! I did it!!! I will get photos as soon as I can. Both of my cameras are out of working order, but if it comes down to it, I'll resort to photobooth!
