    rwbeagles-Back to school shopping

Got mine done...WHOO HOO! Clothes and supplies for both...CHECK. Of course there's ALWAYS more clothes they need...probably a second wave once the weather turns colder...I cannot make myself buy sweaters or long sleeves until they actually need them. You just never know here!

I always go before the tax free weekend, because my sanity is worth so much more than essentially 2% off. LOL.

I managed to get both kids outfitted decently and all their required supplies as well as new backpacks and lunchboxes for under $350 so I consider that a VIC-TO-REE...

    Anyone else done theirs yet?

It's not the same thing, now that I'm in college, but I get money back from my scholarships usually around the beginning of September, and I go nuts then. I get to buy books (hooray...not) but I hunt around for the best deal so that I'll have some leftover, and then BF and I go out for a nice dinner (nice meaning 'someplace with tablecloths') I usually but groceries then too, and stock up on things like pasta, chicken, ect. so that I'm pretty much set for a month or two.

My grandmother still thinks that I need new clothes for the beginning of the semester, so she usually sends me some $$. I probably won't tell her that I usually pay my rent or something with it...

    Re: rwbeagles-Back to school shopping

Tonight I'm taking my 26 year old student for new shoes and a hair cut Big Smile  Not sure what the school uniform colors are for his new school so we'll have to wait and see if he needs more polos.

Like sl2crmeg, we are getting a BIG chunk o' change back this year b/c DH is done in Dec. but I convinced Financial Aid to approve all aid for the entire year.  It will go into savings, likely for future vehicle repairs or a different vehicle.  We also get a break because I'm employed at the college, but I'm putting that money in my puppy fund, hehe.

DH always buys his teaching supplies once school starts and the supplies go on clearance.  Last time we could get crayons for like ten cents a box.

I don't have any students in the family and I so miss BTS Shopping!  The very smell of new binders and pens and backpacks makes me miss school.  Yeah, I'm a geek.

This year my workplace is buying stuff for kids in need so I get to go shopping again!  Yay!

Well, I bought a new tote bag for work a few weeks ago, does that count?  LOL  My BTS shopping ended last June when I took our youngest shopping for stuff he needed for basic training.

    My name is Sue
    How do you do?

Putting it off as long as possible, plus around here the best sales are the day or 2 before school starts. The school supplies are all bought, I buy them through out the year as I see them on sale, so the kids just grab them when needed.

Oldest dd works so she will buy her own clothes again this year, but youngest dd is growing like a weed so it seems like she needs new clothes all the time.

I got Kale's done about a week ago.  I wanted to get it done before the baby got here since she's due...umm tomorrow.  I figured it would be a good week or two before I felt up to shopping after the baby is born and by then Kale would have to settle for the nitty gritty.  He got all his pencils, markers, pencil crayons, erasers, rulers, and that stuff a week ago, and he got his new indoor shoes 2 days ago.  Oh and his new lunch bag.  He'll still need clothes, but like you Gina, I just can't justify buying them until he needs them.  He got a whole new summer outfit for summer that he can wear for the first month or so of school.  I'll probably get him an outfit for the first day of school, but other than that, trying to make him wear jeans and long sleeved shirts in September would just be mean.

We finished Kortnee's this weekend.  Her mom is in charge of supplies this year since we won't get a list until after school starts but we got her set up with pants, shirts, some warmer shirts since she is cold natured and it gets cold in Arkansas faster than it does here, and shoes.  We actually went shopping on Saturday some but I always think the crowds are horrible and didn't even realize it was tax free weekend or I would have waiting until this week probably!  She got some really cute stuff this year and is really happy to not be wearing a uniform.  I can't say that I feel the same about the uniform.  It sure made things easy!

What's this Tax Free weekend stuff about?  We have 2 taxes up here, at least in Ontario.  GST is I think 7% and PST is like 4 or something.  I don't pay PST anyway, since I have Indian Status, but there's no PST on kids clothes or food anyway.  I still have to pay GST though.  They should have  a GST free day...

    Re: rwbeagles-Back to school shopping

In Texas we don't have a state income tax but we do have a sales tax we pay on most purchases with the exception of food and some other things.  They always do a tax free weekend here which means you save 8.25% (at least here where Gina and I live) right before school starts where they don't charge tax on certain items that are common for school that would normally have sales tax, like clothes.  It is never worth the crowds for me though.

I made numerous comments about how busy it seemed out on Saturday and told Kortnee we would finish up this week when kid's parent's would be at work!

    Re: rwbeagles-Back to school shopping

Back to school shopping was never a big deal for me since I always wore a uniform, at least until college.  It literally would take us 20 minutes, 5 white blouses, 5 pairs of navy knee socks and maybe a navy sweater or two.  I wore the same plaid skirt and saddle shoes for 4 years through high school...don't get me wrong, it never bothered me, and actually I loved not having to worry about what I was going to wear each morning.

I do love this time of year though.  All those new nice notebooks, pens and pencils make me feel all warm inside...yep I am a dork.

Do they come with you to do it?  Wow, I envy you.... you really are Supermum!  When Will gets to school age I'm shipping him to you!

    Re: rwbeagles-Back to school shopping

Yes they come with, I need them to try on things. I never go alone tho! My Mom comes with and we pick things together.

I always try to get mix and match things that can go with everything else...and one or two special shirts that Lily gets to pick out herself. I try not to spend more than $13-$15 (my average is about $5-10) on any ONE item unless it is a jacket/sweater or some sort of outwear. No "TV junk" like Hannah Montana or Cartoon T's because those are ALWAYS overpriced, lol. No hootchie mamma stuff which yes, they do sell for SEVEN YEAR OLDS! Angry

I'd love if their school went uniform but this city doesn't seem to be headed that way.
