Re: Is your dog allowed on the furniture? Why/why not?

When I was single, the dogs slept on my bed and eventually had their own cot type  bed in my bedroom.  Now, absolutely not!  DH would flip out!  Angel has her own dog bed near the front door, but prefers sleeping on the floor of our bedroom as she wants to be near us.

No, Thor is big and he wouldn't let you any space... He is aloud to be in bed with us for a while before we all go to sleep, but I think he likes more the fact he is liying next to us than be on the bed, when we stand up, he jumps out of it.

Yes - Moly only jumps up on the couch to lay down and Bella the couch and Hubbys chair when hes not home. Neither one are allowed upstairs  unless taken as I don`t want them to have free access to go upstairs whenever they want to.

Yup.  On furniture and on the bed.  Why?  Because I value the company of my dogs and cats and I like having them near me.

It's true, we shouldn't care about the bed and the material stuff.  If it's really going to bother me for some reason I have my cedar chest full of those fleece blankets and I just throw one down for her to lay on.

Ahhh, the beauty of Standard Poodles...no shedding!  Smile

Lacie, Keisha and Rex have run of the house when we are at home and I will almost always find Lacie on the couch.  Keisha occasionally gets up there, and Rex never does unless I specifically call him up. Zoe is still not allowed in the living room much because when she gets overly excited we still have some problems with incontinence.

At night Lacie and Rex are loose in my room and almost always jump up on the bed for a few minutes.  They never stay up there though - when I turn the reading light off and turn over to go to sleep they both jump down and lay on their blankets or go into their crates.  Zoe and Keisha sleep in their crates when we're gone and at night.

Dogs are proof...God not only loves us and wants us to be happy, but He also has a great sense of humor and likes to hear us laugh!!!

Yup, they're allowed on the sofa and bed. I enjoy cuddling with them, that's why I got fluffy dogs. They're clean and they don't snore...they do shed, but I don't care about that.

Re: Is your dog allowed on the furniture? Why/why not?

I agree completely.  Not only are the animals allowed on the couch, but it is really only for them.  I have 2 recliners that my grandson and I use.  The couch (and recliners) is old as crap and not in any kind of shape so I have given it to the animals.  I keep a sheet on the bottom cushion that I wash regularly.  The dogs love to curl up with the cat and watch tv or sleep or play.  I would never have a couch that my animals could not be on.  When my husband and I were together we allowed the dogs on the furniture.  There is nothing like being able to have a dog head in your lap or be rubbing a dog and watching tv.  In the bed, yes, Amelia loves to get as close to me as she can.  She snores and that is fine, with her body next to me I don't mind sleeping alone now.  She waits myself and the cat are settled in before she goes and eats.  She seldom ever eats during the evening, she wants to wait until bedtime.  Not sure why.

BTW, there are crates (that are NEVER used) with nice dog beds.  The beds aren't used anymore.  I was thinking the other day I should pull them out and put them in my office for them to have someplace to sleep.  They are always in whatever room I (or my grandson) am in. Big Smile

As for the fur, if you must visit my house, you will become one with the fur, in spite of carpet raking and vacuuming. If that bothers you, sorry about your luck.

My feelings exactly! Smile Would I prefer not to have every surface awash in dog hair?  Sure.  What are my options? Making Max live outside 24/7?  Not an option.  Not having him at all?  Also not an option. So I just get up what I can when I'm in the mood to do so, and the rest of the time I pretty much ignore it.

Re: Is your dog allowed on the furniture? Why/why not?

they are allowed on, but only when invited. this ensures, that when i have people over the dogs dont jump on the sofa with them. not everyone is comfortable with it. they are allowed to "ask" to come up though. when it is appropriate i allow them on. when not i tell them to go to their bed. most of the time, they know that when i am alone, they are allowed on.

i'm currently sleeping on a couch bed in my living room. and they know at night, they are allowed on without invitation. they often get up during the night to have some water, or lie on the floor if they are too warm, and then come back up. it's ok with me, as long as they dont step on me. if i dont want them sleeping with me, then i sleep in my bedroom...

Unless you sleep naked or something, I really don't see why it's grosser than a dog being on a couch.

Our dogs are not allowed in bed with us.  I say no more.  Embarrassed  Zip it!

Re: Is your dog allowed on the furniture? Why/why not?

My three Westies are allowed on the furniture and they each have their own favorite spot.  They also sleep in the bed with me at night, each in their spot.  One of them loves to get under the cover.  They each know when I tell them to get down to get down.  Gracie the Golden does not get on the furniture.  For one thing, she is much larger and she doesn't care anything about getting on the furniture.  She is happy just laying next to me on the floor.
