My couches are all crap so dog hair isn't really a problem but if I had new couches it might be a different story. But I like waking up to Kameo or Maze cuddling with me on the couch or bed in the mornings.   Rest In Peace Crombie. I suppose it's the dog hair and such plus he's a big guy.  I think when people come to your house and don't want to leave with hair on them etc that is reasonable. He has a crate and three beds in various places so he can have comfort.  He does sometimes back up onto you so that his butt is on you on the couch and he goes on outdoor furniture which is quite funny.  He loves our porch swing LOL

Reply Contact  No, it was one of the privileges we removed when Ben went through a very bratty adolescent stage about a year ago and not only did he decide the couch was his rightful place, but that it was perfectly acceptable to push me and DH apart so he could sit between us.  Uhm, no.  So we booted him off with every intention of allowing him back up when he'd remembered who was boss around here and earned it through NILIF, but it has sort of ceased to be a priority.  He has a big comfy bed that he loves which is near the couch, DH and I get our space too.  He's not allowed on the bed, because, well, he's not allowed upstairs.  This is for a safety reason more than anything else, we have a steep open plan staircase and he'd likely break a leg climbing it too fast.  Kate - Dog.community Administrator Jokers to the right.

Reply Contact Kirby is allowed up with permission only, though he rarely asks to begin with.  He honestly doesn't care for heights and furniture isn't that appealing to him.  The only reason he has any desire to get on it in the first place is to be near me.  He won't even sit with my parents on couch for more than a few minutes because he is too paranoid I might walk off and he wants to be able to follow me.  All the places I lay or sit around in the house have dog beds nearby so he always has somewhere comfy to rest.  To add to that, I'm a very flexible person and constantly plop down on the floor and roll around with him to cuddle on a daily bases so I think he just doesn't feel like he is missing anything when it comes to furniture. One of the things I love about the fact he doesn't consider it a right is when I go places and visit friends with him, I never have to worry about him rudely jumping up on other people's furniture or walking all over them.  One of my greatest pet peeves with dogs is when someone lets their dog jump up on my lap while I'm sitting, and lets them walk all over me uninvited.  I don't care if their foofoo dog only ways 3 pounds, I still don't like to be treated as a door mat.

Reply Contact Ours aren't allowed on the furniture.  We will hold Shooter & Schatzi in our laps on the couches from time to time, but they aren't allowed up alone.  There are times when the dogs do sneak up on the couch while we aren't home, but it is usually because there was a blanket left up there that looked too comfy to resist. Shooter used to sleep in bed with us, but he eventually was booted off the bed when he started wanting to sleep on our heads.  Bevo sleeps with us every night.  He, too, was kicked out of bed for a while due to resource guarding (me) but we have resolved that issue.  Now, he sleeps on my left, & DH sleeps to my right. Reply Contact Absolutely!!!!  We have a couple of pretty blankets on there for them.  They are pretty good about staying on the blanket but we still get dog hair all over the couch.  We have a Dyson that works great for this.  No invite needed, they lay on the couch when they want.  The only exception is when we have company, they are not allowed on the couch or any furniture at that time.  They usually don't want to be on there anyway while people are there.  They love to mingle.  They also know the off command and will get off if we tell them to. pimpyourpooch.blogspot.com

Reply Contact absolutely not allowed in bed, but can get on the leather easily cleaned couch/chairs if they want to, which they rarely do for some reason perhaps they prefer their doggy beds scattered around the house. Can't imagine letting a filthy shedding snoring dog into your bed. Gross.

If he didn't, it would be a diferent story. As for the fur, if you must visit my house, you will become one with the fur, in spite of carpet raking and vacuuming. Reply Contact Nope.  We have leather couches as well as fabric ones (HOW did we end up with three couches and three love seats???).  The cats are allowed up because they are indoors only.  Gypsy will very occasionally ask to be in my lap and I will put her up there for a few minutes (amazing how fast a 50 lb dog can make your legs go numb!) and then she must get down.  She is not allowed on the bed either.  I need my space!

My dog sheds a total of about 3 weeks per year, she doesn't snore, and she's only "filthy" if I haven't bathed her recently (and believe me, letting her on my bed is incentive to bathe her more!). Unless you sleep naked or something, I really don't see why it's grosser than a dog being on a couch. I have a bit of OCD about pillow cases though... I change mine every night. Luckily I only use one pillow, and I have like 20 pillow cases (cause I don't give a crap if they match my sheets..whenever I see them for cheap, I buy some). Chelsea &

Here he isn't allowed on the furniture. He doesn't generally like to be on the furniture anyway, I think it makes him too hot, so he'll lay on the floor near you instead. He's only ever had two brain-losing episodes, one when he was testing the theory that leather sofa = bad (it does) and the other when he decided I was ignoring him and crawled up on the couch and laid his head on my shoulder (which required him to lay across my back, and it was really cute, so he didn't get in trouble).

C'mon now...My dog isn't filthy at all (if he gets dirty/smelly he gets a bath)...matter of fact I think he's a heck of a lot cleaner than some peoples children...and he doesn't shed too much (thanks to the FURminator). I don't think it's gross at all. I love Apollo! All 110lbs of him! Sometimes he sleeps at the bottom of the bed, and Jeremy and I have no problem with that, and no, he isn't a snorer!

Reply Contact Yes, they are.  Coke is on the couch with me right now.  I have several cats, so I stopped caring about hair covering everything years ago!  My dogs are respectful of furniture and respectful of us so I see no reason not to let them on.  DH often works night shifts so I don't mind having a dog or two in bed.  If I want them off I say "OFF!" and they are gone.  If I had to fight them to get them off, they would not be allowed on.  My Blog - http://24ft.dutchbingo.net My Site - http://liesrosema.com

Reply Contact Sure.  I have two burgundy arm chairs that I haven't let Max get on, but he's OK with that as he couldn't really stretch out on either of them anyway. There are two sofas and a loveseat that he gets on whenever he wants and he spends his life on my bed ... curling up on the electric  blanket in the winter or sprawling out under the ceiling fan in the summer. Sometimes they'll run across it while playing, or Dena will go up there while I'm on my Lifecycle in the evening. Keefer prefers to lay in his crate and watch me from there. If he manages to steal a bone from her he'll occasionally jump onto the bed with it as if to taunt her - got your bone, AND your spot! Dena will also go lay on our bed in the evening. We'll be in the living room, and come 10:00 or 10:30 or so she'll get up and retire to bed, lol! If one of us goes to bed first she'll stay there and snuggle, but she knows that the last one to bed puts the dogs in their crates, so she'll jump off and get in her crate when the second person comes into the room, usually without having to tell her to.
