I have fallen for the Poodle...

I NEVER pictured my self as a poodle person until I started doing work experience with a groomer/ toy poodle breeder. Don't worry she isn't a BYB. She only breeds toy poodles and shows them, all her dogs are health certified and she only has one to two litters a year with different females. ANYWAYS! Her S/O has a retired standard poodle. Used to be inthe show ring and I absolutly LOVE him! And the toys. Oh.. the toy dogs..

I got to play with an 8 week old puppy today and she was so POOFY! And cuddly! I wanted to take her home but sadly she already had a home, just waiting to come of age..

But tomorrow Maze gets to come with me to play with the dogs and get a free groom in Smile

lol i like poodles too. only just met a few of the standards.. they were just dogs to me. adults, and more in tune with their people, which is great actually. i was a stranger anyway lol

but the minis and toys... they're great. my grandmother had an apricot poodle - dont know the controversy around them - but she was a cool little dog. MUCH nicer and playful compared to the poodle she replaced (Gigi was a white toy, and was absolutely vicious. and no she wasnt replaced because she was vicious. she died of old age) but i guess looking back i thought she was mean because i was only a toddler and she didnt like little kids. for a long time i didnt like poodles. But then Brandy came along (the apricot) and i have since changed my mind.

I don't care for poodles when it comes to looks, but I absolutely adore the breed and wouldn't be surprised if at one point I end up getting one.  My best friend growing up had a family, white miniature poodle and we used to have a blast with her and she was already in her mid-late teens to boot.

I love poodles too! I went to my friend's house and her aunt's two miniature poodles were staying for a while. Everyone complained about them, but I adored those dogs! They were so sweet! If it weren't for all the grooming, I'd love a black standard poodle. They're just gorgeous. Oh, btw, DumDogs, I have never liked pugs either but I met one that was so sweet and I seriously love that breed now too.

Poodles really are the ideal breed for me as far as personality goes.  It's the grooming I don't want to deal with, but they are great dogs.  Most of my dog experience before I got my 2 current dogs involved poodles.

Zoe - 3 year old chocolate and tan miniature dachshund

Zack - 8 month old toy manchester terrier

Ally - 9 year old black and white domestic shorthair cat

i dunno if the grooming would bother me or not..... i dont mind brushing a dog every day. but i already know i'd have to pay someone to keep the hair short. i mean i could do it myself but that would just look awful!

Re: I have fallen for the Poodle...

I dream of one day owning a Standard Poodle.  I want a parti-colored or phantom colored one.  There is a grey and white one at our dog park who is so cool.  Gorgeous dog and so smart.  Very in tune with his owner.  I had never heard of anything but the solid colored ones till this dog and now I look at so many of the other mixed colors online.  I just couldn't afford the grooming right now.  But one day...that is my next dog but don't tell Dublin since he is so young yet!

I luuuurve Poodles. I don't have one, because... they're a fairly difficult breed. They're super smart, and active. They're serious atheletes! Most of the Standards I know have some level of dog aggression. I'm not quite ready for that much dog. I don't know anybody who breeds quality Miniatures, and Toys are too teeny. I'd be afraid I'd squish it! LOL

They're the most fun, full of personality dogs, though! Super expressive!

Re: I have fallen for the Poodle...

I used to be not too fond of poodles - I kind of saw them as yappy little ankle biters. Then ... I met a gorgeous brown standard named Henry Fudge and he totally changed my mind about the breed. I didn't realize until I met Henry that all poodles didn't have that sort of goofy haircut with the shaved legs and puffy hair around their ankles. Smile

I love standard poodles.  I'm not sure that I will ever own one due to their grooming needs. From a personality stand point, I would love to have one.

Re: I have fallen for the Poodle...

Oh I would defently pay to have the hair kept short and not in the wierd haircut. Lol.

The standard at the groomer's place as no aggression at all. He's more of a wuss then anything. Infact I brought Maze with me today (story in of it's self. Lol) and when he barked at her, they both ran in the opposite directions. By the end of the day thou, they were playing chase in the yard. So Maze's new friend is a snow white retired show standard poodle with blue nails(painted). Lol.

Re: I have fallen for the Poodle...

I hated poodles till about a few months ago. Reason for the hate. My grandma had one that hated us kids so me being a dog lover was offended and decided that poodles werent for me.

BUT I saw a standard sized black and white poodle a few months ago and fell head over heels in love with her. I was trying to think of ways to steal her. No just kidding but a standard poodle might be in my future later. Way later. And I would have a blast grooming it. I think I drive Lillie nuts with all the brushings I give her.
