    Former War Dog Handler

Hey everyone! I was a Marine Corps dog handler who recently got out but miss being a handler. I set up a new Blog/Website dedicated to all the dog teams protecting us out there. Please check it out and leave comments to support the troops and their dogs. I hope to meet a lot of interesting dog lovers out there.

Sgt Mike, welcome and of course, my thanks for your service to our country.

I noticed in the video~ "As the trainer in the video puts it “dog’s don’t understand death” and are just out there to work and do their duty." I fully understand what you are saying. On the other hand, guys like you do understand death and yet risk it to protect and enable us to enjoy the freedom we so cherish. That humbles me, as it should every American.

My daughter was a Navy Ensign, graduating from the Naval Academy. Unfortunately she was killed in a double murder/suicide, six months after graduation. I was blessed in becoming familiar with the military. I served as an information officer with the Academy. I also was fortunate enough to make many educational trips with the Navy. The one that stands out is my visit to Camp Lejeune where we were "treated" to a simulation of what the recruits go through. I am still in awe of all our military personnel.

Sorry to be so long-winded. So many wonderful memories flooded my mind.

    Ed

Wow, I am terribly sorry to hear about your daughter.  But I appreciate the comments and if I can bring "wonderful memories" back into your mind then that makes me feel good.

    Re: Former War Dog Handler

Thanks, Mike. I didn't mean to hijack the thread; the miltary connection just struck me.

The WarDogs are indeed impressive. It's amazing how our furfriends, normally thought of as companions, are so vitally necessary in other endeavors. I love the stories of how they are brought home to a couch after their "duty" has been completed.

    Again, my admiration.
