Teaching a dog to chew? (bones/etc)

I have one Sheltie (Merlin) that's never been interested in chewing things (other than the puppy teething stage). We've tried bully sticks, hooves, edible nylabones, several types of raw bones, hollowed out bones stuffed with things... nothing. He is not much of a kibble chewer either. If we can save at least some of the expense and trauma of dentals I'd really prefer that - but I've yet to find anything that he wants to chew on! With stuffed bones he licks out what he can get to and then ignores it.  Has anyone tried and had success with clickering a dog to chew on things? Or do you have any suggestions for things that inspired non-chewers to chew?

Have you tried taking something like a bully stick or a rawhide or something similar-consistency and soaking a bit of it in water first? That helps my little guy "get into it" usually.

That said, my sheltie never ever wanted to chew on anything once she passed the teething stage, so... Confused Good luck!

My dog is the same way. She never chews on things.

The only way I can get her to chew is by giving her pork hide bones with the chicken jerky wrapped around/in it, but even then she eats the jerky and will only chew the bone a little while.

He's not showing any signs of tooth pain is he? Dogs will avoid chewing if they  have an abscess, cracked tooth, or gum problems.
