    My dad needs prayers (miranadobe)

My (step) dad is 71 years old, and is going in for surgery tomorrow morning for cervical fusion.  My mom has been worried about his health for years, but putting him under anesthesia and doing surgery on his spine has her especially (understandably) nervous.  PLEASE, please, if you can spare some prayers for my dad - especially around his surgery time 7am Eastern Time tomorrow, the 15th- that would be great.  My mom could use some calming vibes, and perhaps a spare prayer for Zoe, their Dober-girl, to be ok while he's gone.  My dad is retired and spends every day with Zoe - she's going to have a new daily routine once he comes home and is recouperating.

Thanks guys.  My dad means the world to me - he came into our lives when I was 5 years old and has been the bear hug I always need, any time I need it.

You've got it Paige.  FWIW, I've had cervical fusion @ C-6&7.  The first few days post op are pretty rough, but as long as he's got some good drugs that'll help.

I always ask for DEMORAL instead of morphine during surgery.  Morphine is much harder to wake up from and takes a lot longer to get a clear mind again.

Paige, your dad is definately in my prayers.  My kids feel the same about their step Dad and he about them.  He raised them like yours did you.  Calming thought for your Mom and you, Zoe will be fine.  When a human parent is sick it is amazing how our pets can sense it.  Our Rottie Bear seemed to know when my hubby had his accident that he had to be more watchful and gentle.  He wouldnt harly leave the side of the bed for months, only to eat and relieve himself.  Zoe will make a fine babysitter.

Re: My dad needs prayers (miranadobe)

Thanks everyone.  Some of those prayers must be working already, because my sister has decided to fly home to help my mom for this first weekend after the surgery.

However, my other sister who LIVES in southern NH close to my parents....has declined to go over to the house tomorrow to let the dog out.  I'm livid, because this is not the first time she's declined to help my mother with the dog in circumstances like this - last time was when my mom flew to California to be with her dying brother.

I'm calling friends back in NH to find someone to walk Zoe tomorrow morning, so any vibes you can share that my efforts are successful would be really helpful.  Thanks again, I do appreciate it.  Funny how our faith in this community can really work wonders!!!!

Update: I LOVE FREMONT ANIMAL HOSPITAL!!!

A girl there who knows my parents and their dogs (loved old Joe and was incredibly sad when he passed) has offered to go over there tonight to get the lay of the land, and then go over tomorrow before work and again at her lunch break.  I feel so relieved and THANKFUL!!!!!

Of course he does....and you mean the world and more to him!  I'll be thinking of him tomorrow morning along with your mom and Zoe.  And, I'm sending calming, positive thoughts right now to you guys.  Peace be with you.
