    Re: Jen needs prayers

I've got an update.  Phew, finally.

Sis called Mom since she was exhausted and needed to get some rest.  Mom called me.

The surgery went well.  It was delayed due to  a couple of broken hips requiring emergency ops.

The surgeon was very happy with the results.  The abcess was either on or in the bone but hadn't done any damage to it.  Her pic line is in, and hopefully they'll be able to release her tomorrow.

The really good news is that she's HUNGRY and eating!  Jen is a size 2 on a fat day and now her pants won't stay up since she's lost so much weight.  I should have such problems!

    Re: Jen needs prayers

Update:  Jen is still in the hospital.  Her WBC is 14 something and they want it to be at 10 something.  They'll recheck in the morning and if it's down, perhaps release her then.

TWO toes had been affected by this infection, so it's a wait and see as to what that means long term.

Sis said she would be THRILLED to get cards so just shoot me an email and I'll send you her mailing adding.

    Re: Jen needs prayers

I got an email from Jen this morning and she asked that I pass along her thanks for the prayers and the thoughtful cards.  She's absolutely getting a kick out of the cards!

She is home and improving every day.  She has a pic line and not an actual IV drip.  She just injects her antibiotics 3X daily.  The idea of sending a Mom with 3 young children home with an actual IV didn't sit well with one of the nurses and she spoke up.

Now we need to put some weight on her......Sis says she looks like a skeleton with skin....

I'm so glad to hear she's home.   I know she has some recovery to do but fingers all crossed that she is out of the woods with this infection.

    Re: Jen needs prayers

Jen saw the infectious disease specialist this week and was hoping to loose the pic line, but the doc said as sick as she'd been he wasn't going to switch her to oral antibiotics.

Continued thanks from her for the cards and prayers!

    Re: Jen needs prayers

Oh my gosh, how scary! I'm not sure if IV antibiotics wreak havoc to the digestive tract like oral antibiotics do. But if they do then make sure she is taking a good probiotic. I contracted c-diff from taking antibiotics for an absessed tooth earlier this year.  I would hate for her to get another kind of infection if probiotics could prevent it! Saying many prayers for continued healing and health!
