That's too bad, and tell her she has a LOT of us praying for her.

BUT I'm going to look on the positive side -- she has a doctor who found out BEFORE she keeled over again that things weren't right and he wanted to get her back in the hospital.  Doing bloodwork BEFORE she's showing worse?  That at least is an improvement ... I'm glad he found it!

I'm glad that they realized that the white count was going up again so quickly.  Hopefully, IV antibiotics will help her kick this infection.

    Still sending good thoughts.

    Re: Jen needs prayers

Apparently it's just kind of routine to admit to do IV?? This doc is seeing her every day, lancing, cleaning and redressing the foot and doing a blood draw to check her white count.  Funny, she went to college with this particular surgeon and they used to run (as in jogging) together.

So yeah, I'm worried, but not terrified like I was before.

    Glenda, hope she's doing OK!!

About the IV, when my Gram had to have IV antibiotics like at first they sent a visiting nurse to do it.  But, when that wasn't possible they taught a family member to do it.

Back to the hospital again tonite and hopefully this will bring the white count down enough that they can send her home with IV antibiotics.  She also needs an MRI.

    Is this EVER gonna end??

    Re: Jen needs prayers

Glenda -- when an infection goes systemic it is VERY dangerous.  And it is unbelievably painful.

I've had cellulitis twice and pray to Heaven I ***NEVER*** will again.

this is different, but it's also systemic.  And   at least she's getting some serious help now (and it's GREAT she knows this doctor -- that absolutely rocks!!)

It's likely to take a good long while for her to really feel better.   I was on antibiotics constantly for FOUR MONTHS when I had the cellulitis and I've never had so much pain in my life (and for me that's going some).

So when will it end?  It may be a while -- but she's getting good care now from someone who not only is a doctor but who KNOWS her.  So ... just keep thinking for her and praying for her.

Why not organize a card shower for her.  (or even an e-card shower) -- just something to get a whole lot of people giving her a bit of attention so she has something to look forward to.  Just anything to sort of break up the monotony for her -- and it will make you feel like you're helping out as well??? (put me down for either or both if you wanna!!)

    Re: Jen needs prayers

They probably want to do the MRI to make sure it's not in the bone.  My DH had a toe that got infected and he ended up with an infection in the bone.  It's very serious.  And, it took about three months to clear it up completely to where he could go back to work.

I'd send her a card or an e-card too!

That's a good idea!  I bet she'd get a kick out of cards, and the kids sure would too since theyll come from all over.

    Re: Jen needs prayers

    Not good...from my sisters email:

Just a quick note.   We are just loading the car and leaving.  Jen is scheduled for another surgery this afternoon.   She has an abscess and the infection has gone into the bone.  They are doing a pic line at 2 as she will have to be on IVs for 6 weeks and the surgery is after that.

I'm guessing that they install the pic line at 2PM (which is basically a more permanate means of delivering the IV and taking blood, etc, without repeated sticks.  Then they'll do the surgery.  Clearly the surgery is NOT 6 weeks from now, but Sis is upset and alarmed.
