Sounds like the cage is being used like a crate - lose the pee pads.  It's pretty much encouraging her to pee near her bed - not conducive to having a clean house dog.

Clicker training is just anotehr way to teach behaviours.  First you click-treat, click-treat, click-treat.  Then, when the dog connects the two together, you can use the CLICK to mark the behaviour you like.... followed by the treat.  The click is ALWAYS followed by a treat, but the behaviour only needs to be C/T'd to begin with, to teach the behaviour.... then the CT is phased out.

There are several ways to use a "clicker" (or whatever your chosen marker is).  You can "capture" behaviour you like - click when the dog does it and give a treat.  After it has happened a few times, the dog will offer the behaviour a lot and you can stick a cue on it.  Or you can "shape" the behaviour you want, by clicking for teeny tiny steps in the right direction.  When the dog has got it and is "throwing it at you" - you can stick a cue on it.  Or you can use the food to lure the dog into the behaviour, and THEN c/t for it.  Again - when he has got it down to a T, put it on cue.

That sounds interesting.  I'll give it a try and see how she does.  She is a fast learner especially when there is food and treats involved.  I forgot to post about Lulu on Friday. I put her in the computer room with her crate and toys and she didn't shred the paper!!!  Guess she's a "big" girl now and doesn't want to be in her cage.  We'll hopefully that's what her problem was....guess I'll see how it goes today afterwork.  Thanks again everyone for all the advise Smile

agreed.  Glad you're willing to try it.  I know there's plenty of tips here on the forum if you need help with housetraining that doesn't involve pee pads.  Except for incontinent/elderly dogs, I have never found pee pads to be useful.  You have a young, healthy dog who maybe just needs a better focus on housetraining, and some constructive time with her owners.  Big Smile=DogRight Hug

Well we've had 2 days in the computer room and only one accident on the floor.  She's been using the peepad in the opposite side from her bed and water bowl. So Im guessing all she wanted was a bit more room to play in. I did find a couple of her toys on the other side of the gate so I know that she was playing around with them and probably kicked them under.  We still go for 3 walks a day so hopefully the shredding days are over.  We'll see how day 3 goes Big Smile

Glad to hear that things are getting better. Have you considered getting her some bones to chew on? Kongs are great, but I know with my dogs, once the goodie on the inside is eaten, they don't chew on them, they have no interest in them at all when they are empty. We have all sorts of different bones for them to choose from.... bully sticks, RMB's (raw marrow bones), knee bones, etc. They will lay for hours and chew, maybe that's what she needs??

    Re: Looking for someone's opion...

Yes, Lulu has been very good the last few weeks.  At first we did the computer room for her to stay in during the day.  Then she started to climb over her gate so she was all around the condo.  Now she runs the condo but has no access to the bedrooms or bathrooms.  For the first few days she peed in a few spots and when I got home I would put her in "lockdown" while I cleaned the mess.  i think after a week she clued in that if she didn't make a mess I would be able to pet her and give her attention right away.  So the last 2 weeks she actually has actually held her pee and poop untill I get home.  There is still a pee pad out just in case she cant hold it.

Oh yeah, she has a variety of toys to keep her busy.  I've given her a couple bones instead of her kong too.  Trust me, my condo looks like a pet store.  I got her one of those "everlasting treats" which work really well and she licks them for hours.....but I think it's only the hours when Im home Stick out tongue
