  Dangit incision trouble for Ellie Reply Contact Well not the incision, really...that's looking great, apparently this was there before the section. I never thought to "spread" her udders and look between. But she has some surface sloughing of the skin there, owing to a lot of moisture being trapped in her "cleavage", bucketbathing would be a likely source! I noticed the odor today, called the vet and we're getting the antibio's I was supposed to pick up that day but forgot...so that'll help. I am to rinse her down to stimulate the skin regenerating and remove bacteria then swab with Betadine and make SURE she is kept dry between there at all times. Her temp is good, no fever so hoping that stays the same and we don't have to remove the whelps. That'd suck... Good thoughts that this will pass with proper management and antibioticss...it's definitely a surface thing right now...hope it stays that way. Anything anyone can recommend to speed healing that won't affect the whelps would be welcome too!   Re: Dangit incision trouble for Ellie Reply Contact Well, this might sound crazy but the brewed tea worked really well with the yucky wetness Sassy was having with her paws. It wouldn't be a problem (I assume) to dab some strong black tea on the area and dry it off and it might help. I added tea tree oil to the solution sometimes but I don't think that would be appropriate with the whelping. ~ Cathy ~

  Re: Dangit incision trouble for Ellie Reply Contact  Oh Gina, I'm sorry to hear Ellie's got a problem. You might check about adding some Vitamin C to her diet to help boost her immune system. After Piper had all her problems with the uterine infection, I added Vitamin C and it helped stop the continuing vaginal discharge she was experiencing. I have 1000 mg capsules of vitamin c that I divided into her morning and evening meals for the first week, then down to 500 mg once a day. My only excuse is that, not having any cleavage of my own to speak of...I am unfamiliar with boobrub sores. lol.   Re: Dangit incision trouble for Ellie Reply Contact right. I am patting on Betadine...then blowing on it and wiping off the excess. You think that's alright? Luckily it's kind of hard for them to get IN BETWEEN the  udders esp when she's on her side...but I will keep an eye on it. I'm more worried about the bacteria they might encounter getting into them somehow. I am probably not going to do dew's because I worry about the infection risk with mom having an active issue.   Re: Dangit incision trouble for Ellie Reply Contact As long as you're wiping the excess off, I don't think that there will be a problem.  All of the infections that I've seen like this have cleared very quickly once antibiotics have been started.  I would worry about doing to dews as well.  You might talk to your vet about how he/she feels about the risk of infection of the pups dews.   Re: Dangit incision trouble for Ellie Reply Contact Gina -- do you have an aloe plant? (like for burns)?  Or can you get some liquid aloe (not aloe cream, but the actual juice) from a health store? Aloe is a SUPERB anti-inflammatory for any sort of "burn" (and yeast burns the skin).  It will help dry it up and DEFINITELY take the pain away.  You can use it with betadyne or anything else.   Just pat it on. Lay a piece of Saran wrap down on the table and have a small air-tight container ready. IF you have a plant I can tell you how to harvest the goo.  You cut off a "leaf" and then with a paring knife trim the spikes from the edges.  Then slice the 'leaf' in half (separating the top half from the underneath half) so you have two long flat gooey strips. Lay them skin side down on the Saran.  Take a spoon and simply crush and scrape the flesh away -- it will literally turn to a gelatenous goo.  Just scrape it off the skin and then toss the skin itself away. Use the goo to smear on her where she's sore.  Refrigerate the leftovers (just pick that Saran up and squeeze it into the container)
