You might want to read a bit before posting something like this.  You're preaching to the choir.

You hit that nail right on the head Amanda!   Those of us here on this forum are the folks that others shake their heads at and wonder if we were dropped on our heads as babies since we are sooooo devoted to our dogs!

I have to disagree. Many things = good ownership. A puppy miller can register their breeding dogs, and vaccinate them - but does that mean they are 'good' owners and 'love' their pets?

Good point Erica.  Being a good dog owner means more than "just" caring for their physical needs.  That is important, very important but that alone does not mean you love your animals.  A dog's requirement for social structure and interaction is as important as the physical needs.  More dogs are put to death for behavioral problems than any other reason, according to some studies.

And here I'm sitting here wondering "register"?  For what?  Who's spamming now?  Register??

ohhhhhhhhhh -- rotfl -- that ONLY makes sense if you have a purebred AND buy from a breeder.  And some of us are such fanatics that we only rescue.

Vet?  Let's qualify that -- a GOOD vet.  A vet who agrees with the things you have carefully researched and considered and educated yourselves on ... not just any vet. And not just for "annual vaccines" --

Sorry -- I'm still laughing at "register".  I ... um ... fail to see why that matters a hill of beans?

Does he mean License?  With the State/City?  Or microchip and register your microchip?  I dunno! Just trying to be helpful. LOL

But Amanda is right, the idog folks are some of the most conscientious around... I'd say our membership (especially our regulars) are among the most devoted to their pets I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.

I'm with you Sera. I did a mental adjustment and read LICENSE instead of register.....

We don't license, here, so my mind was boggled, too. My dogs are registered, but only because I like playing show dogBig Smile Has nothing to do with the level of love I have for them.

Haha - Jennie - here we 'register' because it's the law...not because I love them

And - because I LOVE my pets, they are not vaccinated every year, but every 3 (if that, again... that funny 'law' thing comes in to play'

Re: DO YOU REALLY LOVE YOURE ANIMALS?????????AND IF YOU DO

I don't want to be a 'debbie downer' here, but those types of people that will allow an animal to suffer to the point of death are not the type to be frequenting doggy message boards online.

Money IS an issue - for the best of people, and for the most caring of people - it is a HUGE issue. Vet care is grossly overpriced, and when it boils down to how many blood tests and how much lab work you can do - it's money that often stands in the way for many people. While most of us have savings and credit cards for this type of thing - some people just plain don't. Sometimes, it's their fault - but often it's a sad string of events that has left them broke- but I can guarentee you one thing - if someone cares enough, they will do what needs to be done, no matter what that hard decision may be.

We've seen lots of loss here on the board; sad as it may seem. People will do whatever they can for their pets on this board - but all the vet treatment in the world cannot provide a good quality of life to a sick animal, and that's when this story ends and a mourning begins. And ending a suffering is, in my perspective, one of the most kindest, selfless things a person can do for their pet. It doesn't make them a bad person, it means they are thinking of someone other than themselves. I've had to make that call - and I'm sure you will too at one point.

ETA: licensing varies HUGELY from county to county - and state to state. Here in my county (Pinellas) you have to register every pet. In the next county over (Pasco) there is no mandatory licensing. In Pinellas, we have the preferd option of a 3 year license, and now they just offered a life time license ($10, same as the 1 year or 3 year).

Re: DO YOU REALLY LOVE YOURE ANIMALS?????????AND IF YOU DO

DH and I were talking last night about under what circumstances we'd put a dog down (as far as health problems).  I said, I didn't want it to be about money, and I prefer to make decisions beforehand so I'm not tortured by them when it's actually happening, so we discussed what we considered "quality of life" for a dog to be.  All of our dogs are healthy, but now we are both on the same page.

Agree.  I feel a little put off by the title of this too. . .Do I love my animals??

Willow is not licensed because she cannot be vaccinated due to health issues.  Health issues that have taken a great deal of time, money and emotion to overcome.  So, don't tell me if I love her I'd do this and that.
