    Prayers Welcome

My BF had a bad episode (reaction to medication that he has taken for a long time, just now his liver can't process as well) and is now on a ventilator and under sedation in CCU.  One attempt to extubate him didn't go well.  Some of his symptoms had subsided, which was a plus, but his heart rate and BP went dangerously high.  They need the medicine to clear his system, because dialyzing him would be so dangerous.  He doesn't even know I'm there when I sit with him.  It's so hard to watch that handsome face that used to tell me "I love you" and kiss me goodnight every night be so dangerously quiet.  The last thing he said while he was still conscious was my name... I so want him to come out of this.  It sucks having to work through this, too - I'm scared to take days off because I don't know how many I will need later.  When this is all over, I want to ask my legislator to amend the family leave act to include designated primary caregivers who aren't family.

It's funny, but one of his native friends called me at 7:00 a.m. yesterday, apologetically saying he couldn't wait any longer because my BF was "on his heart".  Makes me think that there is a realm beyond that which we see...

    Re: Prayers Welcome

Sending a big supply of good thoughts, vibes, and prayers for your boyfriend and for you.  I've seen friends and other family members be in the awful position of wanting to be at the hospital 24/7, but unable to do so due to work obligations.  It's a terrible conflict to have.  Here's hoping he stabilizes soon and is speaking to you clearly and strongly again.

    Re: Prayers Welcome

Thanks everyone, and especially you, marty, with your own heart so recently broken...  One of the elders in our talking circle had already come and gone before I got to the hospital today - he said some prayers and left a sweetgrass braid and honor feathers.  If Mike could see them he would be very honored and grateful.  I was honored that an elder would think so much of him to take the time to drive 50 miles to do that.  All his native friends have been calling and asking about him.  There's been quite an outpouring of concern and offers of help.
