    Agility Brag!

Hope you guys aren't getting sick of me! I am so proud of Belle!!!!

She had her second trial over the weekend, we are just doing 1 day for now. This trial she double "Q'd", and actually won both her runs!!! She was awesome.

Her original trainer was there, and he had discounted her as being slow and non enthusiastic. He came up to me and said he is surprised at her turn around. He could not get over how fast she was, and he said she never took her eyes off me for one moment. He was truly impressed. I was nice and thanked him for his kind words, and said how Denise (current trainer) has found the true Belle and brought the fun into her.

I was also pleased because this was her first indoor trial. When we practice at class, she is good but not a speed demon. At the outdoor trial I was not prepared for my fast dog. I wondered going into this event if she would be like the outdoor trial dog or the class dog. She quickly let me know upon getting there. She trotted into the venue, relaxed and happy not knowing where she was going. As soon as she saw the agility course being set, she started dragging DH toward the course barking! She wanted to go play NOW!!!!

I am so thrilled to have found something she really seems to love. IF all goes well next Saturday, she may have completed her first title. Let's just hope her mother doesn't hold her back.

    Re: Agility Brag!

Belle completed her jumpers title this past weekend, with another win in the class. YEAH BELLE!!!

I had an missed contact on the A frame in our standard class. I really need to figure out "how" to make sure we get that when she is running. In class she does not run so fast or hard, so I can make sure she hits the contact. But in a trial she is a different dog. Sigh...

I am very pleased with her, it was an outdoor trial, pretty hot considering we have not had much hot weather yet, and she had to wait ALL DAY from her jumpers run to her standard. She came out as fresh and ready to go for the later class as she did the earlier. A LOT of dogs wilted in the heat. I saw a lot of dropped rails and missed contacts, so I guess I was in good company.

Welcome to my world!!  lol  We've actually raised our success rate on the frame a LOT over the past few months (to the point where it's about 95% reliable), but the dog walk continues to give us major problems in trial situations.

My instructor thinks that I need to work more on a 2 on/2 off with him on the dog walk -- she doesn't think that a large dog with a large stride is as easy to train the running contact as, say, a small dog.  So right now we're heavily treating a stop at the end of the dog walk, hoping that he at least SLOWS DOWN when we get to our next trial.

If he blows a contact in NADAC we are allowed to go back and re-school the obstacle.  It's an automatic elimination, but once you blow your Q what does it matter?

    Re: Agility Brag!

    Congrats on your jumpers title!!

    Contacts..

Chloe is a very soft dog so I don't enforce the 2o2o nowadays until it really matters because she has been anticipating the command thus slowing down on the DW and AF. Her first 2-3 attempts she will stop at full speed but the attempts afterwards, she starts to tippy-toe down. Now Scout's early contact work shows the opposite and he is pretty much solid on it but lacks the speed on the DW but what do you expect for only doing this since Feburary.
