    Taste of the Wild

I was at a dog show today and got some free samples of a new food.  I did a little research on it and it appears it's made by Diamond.  The three dog formulas actually look pretty decent.  I'd be interested in knowing whether the fish was from ethoxyquin free sources.  I do like the idea of a grain free food with predominantly sweet potatoes and peas instead of the usual white potato or tapioca.

I'm not sure about the ethoxyquin but I'd like to know too. I just started feeding this today. The ingredients look awesome! and the protein % isn't outrageous either...I bought it for both my dogs and cats.

More and more grain free foods seem to be popping on the market. The fish one looks really good. The only grain free my Pugs have done well on have been TO Ocean Blue, and Wild Natural. I would like to give this fish one a try. Any one know the calcium/ph of these foods?

Not to rain on anyones parade, but I am sooooo over using anything ever made by Diamond.  First they had the corn issues, then the big recall touched them but did they dump the tainted food??  Nope, they sold it to PIG farmers......those folks who raise pigs that end up on our tables.  JMHO, but if Diamond has anything to do with it, it's not getting in my door.

I actually emailed them yesterday to ask!  I'll let you know when they respond.

    Pacific stream/ calcium  1.9  ph  1.1

    wetlands/ calcium 2.1  ph  1.4

I don't know. I'd be shocked if "ocean fish meal" didn't have ethoxyquin in it. And smoked salmon, like all smoked foods, is full of carcinogens.  Good that more and more companies are producing these kind of formulas, though. Especially for cats.

    Re: Taste of the Wild

I hope this food is fairly inexpensive because according to the feeding guidelines it would cost a FORTUNE to feed a 70 lb dog w/the recommended 3 1/2 - 4 cups a day. My 70 lb yellow lab eats 2 1/2 cups per day of TWO, Core or Orijen.   This food doesn't seem to be cost effective and besides... I myself, as good as it sounds, wouldn't touch anything made by Diamond w/a 10 ft pole.  Just WAY too risky considering their complete lack of ethics with regards to the past recall they were involved in.  A leopard can't change it's spots overnight.... and I seriously doubt Diamond has changed theirs in such a short time.Hmm

    Thanks SunshineGirl!  :)

One thing this food would be good for is picky eaters.  I brought home a sample bag of kibble and my chihuahuas were fighting over it!  It would be great for Kong toys, etc too.

I personally won't feed it because there is too much calcium in it- this is fine for an adult dog, but for puppies and pregnant females it creates issues...

    Re: Taste of the Wild

I just searched for this food and I guess I totally missed this thread. One of the local pet stores started carrying it and I good some samples. It is definately like dog crack, Otto and Oliver are fighting over the duck formula right now. I may consider this for my rotation. Anyone who started using it have any issues or get word back about the fish meal?

my very sensitive tummy dogs are doing very well on it. they love it, and no upset tummies so far. They have been eating it for a week.

    Re: Taste of the Wild

I'd really like to add their food to my rotation if it becomes available near me. I have to say that I hate the packaging. The bags look like they should be a cover for an old book like "Call of the Wild". Of course it's not going to stop me from feeding it, but it sure is an eyesore! lol
