I am very experienced with small dogs as well as large. I got Pippin almost two weeks ago and I am pleasnatly surprised. He is pleasant, smart, loving, loyal, obedient.... I could go on and on. I am not seeing any of the Pom traits I have been so warned about. I treat him like all of my other small guys, and he acts just like them. When I Googled "Pomeranian" I got a couple of Pom sites that did not paint a very nice picture of the breed. The more I researched, the more I realized that the challenges they put such a focus on are the same challenges that one would face with any small dog.

I am only "book" familiar with the breed. I would love to hear any "insider" tips. I have started Pippin like I do all of my dogs. I take him to the groomer and vet whether or not he needs to go so he can see that many people will handle him for many reasons. I take him visiting for the same reasons. I also enforce that he needs to have manners at home and out. My other dogs are great teachers too.

Are there any particular Pom traits that might start to develope as he matures? I read that they are not cuddly or lap dogs. They are independent and stubborn. I don't want that, but that is not anything like the pup I have here.

Brief history: A co-worker of mine bought Pippin as a birthday present for her mother. The first week was fine, but weeks 2-3 and 4 just left the pup in a crate all day for 10 or more hours. They decided that since the pup could not house train himself, they would like to resell him..... before I could find a buyer for them, they decided to GIVE him to me. They know my dogs are very well cared for. I have not sent in his registration yet.
