Re: My dad needs prayers (miranadobe)

Thank you, thank you, thank you everyone.

So far so good - Mom just sent me a text that he's in recovery and it will be an hour before she can see him, but that the doctor said he did well.

I haven't heard anything since yesterday morning when my mom texted that she was taking my dad home from the hospital.

Meanwhile, I just read my horoscope for tomorrow which reads in part:  You will get good news and bad news from your family today.  The good news is that someone is experiencing a miraculous and positive change to their wellness or health.   The bad news was about a romantic snag for someone else.  I'll take the good health portion, for sure!!

Thank you guys - I talked to my sister late last night and she said my dad had gotten sick from the percocet, so she'd gone out to get some ginger ale to calm his stomach.  She says my mom is fine, his daughters (my step-sisters) were there when she arrived from her flight on Friday.  Just hoping he feels better today - maybe a little football on TV will brighten him up.  He'll sleep through it... but he does anyway, unless it's a tight game.

Re: My dad needs prayers (miranadobe)

Talked to my dad this afternoon - he's pretty funny when he's drugged up.  A little hoarse, and they said he can't eat anything with sharp edges and his food has to be room-temp, not hot or cold.  I didn't realize that they went into his neck from the front, as opposed to the back, which is why his esophagus got kind of man-handled, and also why the ligaments in his neck are stretched beyond what they're used to right now.

While talking to him, he cracked a few jokes, including a slurred one that oxycontin is great and "Now I know why the kids steal it!"  Apparently, within 15 mins of his pills, he gets loopy and ends up going to sleep.  He says that every time he wakes up from sleeping, he feels a tiny bit better.  Tonight he gets his much-anticipated shower.  My mom fought him on what "3-days post surgery" really meant on that one. :)

My mom even mentioned her experiences in the Emergency Room, saying that two bad things happened that affected her tremendously.  One being a still-born baby that was brought in, and some other tragedy.  She says she handled the situation great as it was going on, but two weeks later it dropped like a bomb on her.  She says she suspects that's what's going to happen with this because she's handling things great, but suspects it's coming.

Thanks again for all your kind thoughts for my dad and mom.  We all appreciate them.

Re: My dad needs prayers (miranadobe)

Paige - I'm glad your dad is doing so well and even if it's the meds that are keeping him comfy, that's still a huge relief. Before I had my surgery I was terrified that the meds wouldn't be enough and was so thrilled when I found out they worked great. The only downside for me was that they caused really vivid nightmares.

I hope he continues to improve and that he doesn't have any mental letdown from the whole thing. If he's like me, he might just be thrilled that the surgery is behind him now. I'll continue to think good thoughts for him and the rest of you.

Thank you guys, so very much!  I spoke with my dad last night, and when I asked how he felt, his enthusiastic response was "GREAT!!"  He means it, too!  He said he's feeling lightyears better, has weaned himself off the meds (although they did produce the "jokester" in him, which my mom and sisters found entertaining).  He goes back in for a follow-up appointment Weds (tomorrow) where he hopes that they will remove the stitches, and hopefully give him a smaller neck brace.  He said his esophagus feels much better now, too - he still sounds a little hoarse, but better.

Mom and dad are very pleased that there's absolutely no sign of infection in the surgery site and he said about three times that he thinks he feels so much better, that this may be the first giant step to overall well-being.  He's been dealing with chronic lower back pain that involved getting injections, etc.  He really thinks he could feel better than he has in years once this is fully healed up.

THANK YOU for your prayers and good thoughts.  I believe his total lack of infection and his feeling so much healing already was enhanced by all the good energy sent to him. :D  I have a pic of him and Zoe at home that I will post up tonight, so you know where your prayers went. Hooray for healing!!!
