  Still No Resolution! Reply Contact Ugh. Just back from the vet's office again.  Still no resolution to Bear's diarrhea issues that have been ongoing for four weeks now. He's now on more droncit, panacur, and a prescription diet (i/d) that we all hate while yet another watery sample makes it's way off to the local state veterinary university.  I guess I just need to whine to people who might understand *sigh*  I'm really starting to get worried I've gotten another GSD mix with pancreatic/intestinal issues. ~ lora ~

  Re: Still No Resolution! Reply Contact  Has your vet recommended scoping Bear? Sometimes that can make a difference in treatment. For example, I've read about a case in which a dog which had been diagnosed with IBD after repeatedly testing negative for parasites was scoped and there were worms in the dog's gut. The dog was treated for worms and was able to eat normal foods and gained weight.                         Janice

I'm sure it's just my fears after losing Adanudo so young to pancreatic cancer that wasn't diagnosed properly, but his system is throwing me for a loop.  It also makes housetraining nearly impossible right now. Janice - No, he hasn't yet.  He wants to run one more fecal and treat with a broad spectrum for right now, then if we don't have a resolution with that, to start culturing for bacteria.  Next time we speak with him, I will ask about the scoping though. Amanda - No I haven't, though that's a great idea.  Thanks for reminding me about adding beneficial bacteria back to his system, I know better than that and it totally slipped my mind.  Yogurt may make his kibble a little more palatable for him as well.  I actually keep some full-fat organic plain yogurt in the house for my 9m old baby - think a little of that would work? ~ lora ~

It shouldn't hurt to try, for sure!  My dogs get plain yogurt mixed into their kibble every day (dinner feeding).  Keeps the gas at a minimum, lol.  And they love it! ~Heather~

I see no reason why not.  We freeze yogurt in an ice tray & toss a cube in our dog's food daily.  It works really well, & saves space in the fridge. This time he tested positive for coccidia - so I'm off to te vet's office to pick up another wormer that's also effective against the protozoa. His intestines should be squeaky clean after this.... Been googling a bit, but my 9m old daughter is jealous of the computer - anyone know of anything I can treat the backyard with to minimize re-infection chances until his immune system is stronger?  It's full of weeds only, so I'm not worried about killing grass. (Planned to re-sod next spring!) ~ lora ~

Reply Contact Keep in mind that coccidia can be very tough to get rid of.  My youngest had it as a pup and it took 2 treatments before he had a negative fecal.  I believe they used some sort of really yucky tasting dewormer.
