Actually, I'm really not a bird fan at all! I REFUSE to go into the bird thing at Busch Gardens - and when birds come in at work, I sent them right out to the rehabbers! Ducks and geese are about the only ones I'll handle often! The rest scare me Embarrassed

Although... I did enjoy my trip to the Seabird Sanctuary in Indian Rocks - lots of Pelicans, which I really like! Such friendly little guys. We used to have one come to the back door of the old shelter I worked at for fish every morning. Spoiled little thing...!

*grin* I understand -- I don't know WHY I like ospreys so much -- I think because they are so majestic when they fly.  that and the fact that all the ones at the Audubon are all "rescues" that can't be returned to the wild for some reason.  they've got a huge eagle "Trouble" who was born with a deformed beak and he'd never be able to feed himself --

David's the bird "fan" (Hootie is his -- I never handle him at all) but I do enjoy seeing the big birds safely behind mesh LOL.

As I said above -- my relationship with owls is kind of a love/hate thing -- i HATE hearing them hunt.  They are a creature of the night and as such, are *not* my favorite but they are "neighbors" like it or not.

Again no sign at all of them tonight which is a good thing.  Apparently that night was just a "one off".

The Seabird Sanctuary is a lot like that too. They rehab what they can to release, but do have some forever residents. And a lot that stop in for a meal... haha. No one ever said birds were not smart, that's for sure! It's a pretty fun place to visit if you're ever up in this area with nothing to do!

I like birds - behind cages. I will NOT handle wild birds - I save that for the rehabber! I've been know to call and say 'I've got a bird in the box'. oh? what kind of bird? 'I dunno, a bird. It's closed and I AM NOT opening it!' Been pecked one too many times (by a 'dead' bird; lady brought it in, picked it up off the side of the road. Was SO not dead!). It's a good thing we have such a  nice relationship. haha

There was a woman here in Orlando (near Altamonte where I live) named Anne Young -- she was known far and wide as "the Bird Lady" -- she did songbird rescue -- and what an awesome job she did.

She passed away last year -- she was Scottish (Clan Young) and they honored her at the Central Florida Highland Games in January.  I've sent birds to her before.

One of the things in my big old first aid kit are several pairs of gloves -- big gloves, thick gloves, thin gloves (like for sarcops) and LONG gloves.

Weird. Did any of them have letters in their beaks? LOL When you mentioned owls all over I immediately thought of harry potter and the theme song started in my head ;) LOL

Nope -- not even when sitting on the mail boxes LOL  These owls tend to be completely self-serving (now every time I see Hedwig I'll be sad -- it's the only problem with reading the books ahead of the movies!!)
