I do not like my picture taken (work related rant)

So every other Friday for the summer we have half day lunches.  We eat lunch together as a company (well the ones based out of our home office anyway) and we leave early for the day.  Today they thought it would be "fun" to take photos with no warning us at all, to send to employees that work out of state.  I was already annoyed I was required to have my photo plastered on the company website, but I will not participate in group photos.  Plus, I had to TAKE a photo to give them one for the website, because mine are all years outdated.  I just don't do photos.  They were annoyed with me when I flat out refused to join in.  Maybe it's wrong and "un-team like" of me, but I don't even let my friends or family members take my picture!  I'm friendly with my coworkers, a few of whom I'm friendly with outside of work.  I do my job well and I'm very much a team player - but do not try to coerce/embarrass/force me into taking group photos.  I'm quirky, and not liking my photo taken is one of them!

    *end rant

I don't blame you.  I'm the same way and nothing ticks me off more than someone trying to force me to look at a camera and say "cheese".

I have never liked having my picture taken, even when I looked halfway good. lol  When friends or family insist and I go along to not be a grouch it really ticks me off to find they have emailed them to half the country.  I know that it's just a silly thing I have but I don't appreciate it.  I understand how you feel.

I don't think you should be forced to have your picture on a website- considering that you have a private life that might involve, oh, say, an abusive ex, or a birth mother you don't ever want to find you, or any number of things.  Sending it to coworkers may be different, putting it up online without permission - not cool.

The pictures being taken Friday were going to be sent internally to those who don't work out of the home office "in hopes of fostering a closer company".  I don't like posing for pictures to begin with, and less for superficially casual ones in which I feel pressured.

The photo of me that is up on the website a head shot of me and the other customer services managers in my dept. are there as well.  I wasn't happy about it, but it was done with permission, though I was told I had to so I relented on it as I frankly wanted the job and out of my old one (and jobs are hard to come by!).

If I had any concerns about my privacy I would have put my foot down on the head shot photo.  Truth of the matter is, it's not hard to find me.  My online presence is not great, but if you know my last name, you can track me down easily enough (my last name is not overly common).  I have no concerns about my safety thankfully!

I'm glad others understand, I'm just not one to have my photo taken at all.  Hate it.

I refused to have my photo taken for our website. I said that I had privacy concerns and left it at that. They agreed that picture taking and then the pricavy issues with posting those pics all over is something they had not considered. They are now much more careful about it.

Some people believe that every time your image is recorded, it steals a piece of your soul.  I wonder if that is why so many people are uncomfortable about it, even if they couldn't say why?  Anyway, I am always BEHIND the camera.  Best place to be.  Beware the soul-stealer...

Chuffy, I think next time the camera comes around I'll use that excuse!  "I'm sorry but I would like to keep my soul intact..." Stick out tongue
