who has an iphone? ***update, got it...what apps?**

Well, i'm eligible for an upgrade. Right now i have a blackberry pearl. It works fine, but i'm thinking about an iphone. I'm really interested in some of the apps. I can download a drug book, med calculator, that kindle program...etc, etc. I also like that it has GPS. What do you all think of it, and is it worth spending $200 when i have a decent phone?

    Re: who has an iphone?

My husband has one and LOVES it -- me, I want a phone to be a phone and *maybe* a camera.  That is ALL. *grin* if I want to be on a computer I want is big enough to SEE and big enough to TYPE. (I know I'm hopeless and I hate, loathe & despise text messaging and won't let texts come IN on my phone ... call me an O.F LOL)

But David zooms along on it and loves  it.  But he's the truly geeky one in the family and LOVES that it's small and that he can do all that stuff on it (and his other toy is and OQO and he likes that the IPhone does many of the same things ... SMALLER!! LOL)

Have it, *love* it, can't imagine not having it around. I can do so much on my phone, which is handy for multi-tasking on day to day stuff, like checking my bank accnt, comparing prices at another store while I'm out shopping, or finding out the weather forecast while I'm at the barn.

    Highly recommend!

I think pretty much anyone that has one loves it dearly...aside from perhaps the $100 a month fee...but if you are okay with that then I would say the phone itself is pretty wonderful.

Yep! I have one and adore it. I like being able to have Internet access anywhere. In fact, I'm using mine right now at the school where I'm working, waiting for the bell to ring! I love the apps, the interface, and even the reception. Only downside is the Internet very occasionally seems to "freeze" and I have trouble loading pages.

I have it and I LOVE it. Didn't think I would as much as I do. The apps are fun too.

I don't pay $100 a month for mine. With both DH and my phones (his is non I phone) our bill was about $120 last month. We went over in our minutes too. It would depend on your package of minutes/texts etc. There is a mandatory $30 something fee for the 3G network. DH who is NOT a big cell user really wants an I phone now too.

I have one, if you want to have more apps (like a videocamera or free music) you can get advice from here (you will have to "jailbrake" it first):

Have it, Love it. I don't remember how I went through life without it, hehe. I need it to book jobs when I'm out in the field, and ever since I got it I get alot more work, so for me, its definitely worth the cost. Although I must say I'm addicted and have a horrible habit of checking email and being on the internet when I go out to dinner with the husband, which annoys him.

I'd love to get DH one for his BD but I'd have to switch our service from Verizon to AT&T and I don't want to do that. I wonder if that'll ever change.

I don't have one but boyfriend does and let me tell you, there should be a 12 step program sold with the darn things!  I hear people call Blackberries Crackberries so if you're that way with your Berry, then you'll totally enjoy the iphone.  Just be forewarned that as the others here have attested, it becomes an extension of your person and you'll wither up and die if you lose it Stick out tongue

Love it, couldn't live without it and you absolutely won't regret it. The apps, IMO, are what make this phone superior to many others out there and the ability to manage it all in iTunes. I even use it at work for my patients with memory and cognitive problems and it has helped them tremendously. Just go for it!

Re: who has an iphone? ***got it! what apps?***

For games, I like "shake and spell" (or somesuch - basically like the word game Boggle), "Trace" (you draw a path for your little stick character), and some silly jetski game which is really graphics-intensive so eats up the battery, but is really fun! All of those are free, or have free versions.

I highly recommend just browsing the free apps :)

I also have a sort of white noise/background noise app for when I'm trying to fall asleep (ambisci lite I think it's called?), Google Earth (fun to play with), the Google app that has voice-activated search...

Thus far I've only paid for 1 app, and that was the full version of Shake and Spell (like $1-2). Most everything else I want I can find for free. But I mostly use my phone for entertainment and internet.

I got the G1, got a great price on it on amazon.com wayyyy cheaper than the iphone. Also the plans were cheaper for the G1, I didn't want to spend $100/month on a phone.  And all the apps are FREE. :)

      I love it.

Congrats on the new purchase!  As for apps I have 5 screens worth of them.Embarrassed So many great ones out there! Several months ago I made an apps thread so here is the link to it and lemme see what else I can add below the link that I have gotten since the thread...

     http://community.dog.com/forums/p/91756/728663.aspx#728663

     Additions:

I like the dictionary ones and have thought about getting the scrabble check ones for when DH and I play scrabble together. but for now i use the dictionary app.

I LOVE my written news apps and they are the most used of all of my apps. My favorite is BBC reader, but when I don't want to read articles as lengthy, I click on my mobile news app. Both were free I believe.

I like my stitcher radio app so I can listen to international news in the morning on my walks with the pooches. I also have NPR mobile, PRI and Public radio apps, all free as well. but I prefer the stitcher one which gives me a lot of choices for news under a single app.

Free memory is fantastic when your phone starts to slow down or apps start crashing. you just click on the free memory button and it closes up some things and frees some memory up so things work better again.

I like vitals view for tracking health stuff

Buzzilions I love if I just want to look up reviews for something.

Urbanspoon has been a help when DH and I cant decide what we want to eat. We let the phone decide for us.

Shake and Spell was already mentioned, but I also like word warp, enigma lite, WS lite and word link. they are all fun and short word games great for killing time when you have a few minutes you are waiting at the dentist or something.

I have DOFmaster for calculating the hyperfocal distance when I do photography.

And if you are going to be doing any traveling, see what is out there in terms of apps for the place you are going. I got an app on Ireland and also one on North Wales for only a couple bucks each and they were very helpful in our trip planning. they actually provided different info than all the travel guides in terms of some transportation options and such.

If you find any great ones not mentioned, let me know.  I have room to add more. Surprise
