Massachusetts voters pass ban on greyhound racing

The difference between the almost right word & the right word is really a large matter--it's the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.

I voted for the ban because I don't like the way the dogs are treated at all (spending 20+ hours a day in a small cage, injuries, etc). One of my good friends votes against the ban, she said " Get over it! They're just dogs!! But who are we to take away peoples jobs?" I haven't talked to her since it passed. I just can't wrap my mind around what she said knowning how I feel about the greyhounds (and dogs in general).

That's a tough one. I don't know that I would be for a complete ban, but more for reform instead. I mean, we use horses for racing? The problem with the entire thing is how the dogs are treated and discarded once their racing career is over.

I agree, however, that wasn't an option on the ballot....it was yes or no. If the tracks were to stay open I would have liked the dogs treated better.
