In need of a creative gift idea for twin girls

My sister is expecting identical twin girls within the next couple of weeks.  I want to get something for them when they are born.  I already got her her shower gift.  I ended up going with a double stroller, since I know that is something she will definitely need.  Now I want to get her something like a keepsake sort of thing.  My first thought was maybe blankets with their names on them, but our aunt is making her blankets.

She has also chosen colors for them.  The first baby will be named Cicily Anne and pink will be her color.  Taryn Rebekah is the other and purple will be her color.  So I was also thinking about taking pictures of them and putting them in frames with some pink and purple on the frames.

And you all should expect lots of pics of my nieces coming up!  I am so excited.

So what do you think?  Any other ideas?

Years ago a friend of mine had IDENTICAL twin girls -- it's a longer, funny story but essentially it was in the days before routine sonograms and she was expecting a BIG baby but not twins (13# 2 oz EACH).

They were SO identical she had a terrible time telling them apart for literally like 6 months.  so she had to keep identifying bracelets on them at all times.

Make sure the bracelets are elastic altho strong enough so they can't break them and swallow beads.  But such a gift may be more of a lifesaver than you'd imagine.

I hope your sister is prepared to have the one hate pink and WANT purple and vs.!!

Maybe not as the main gift, but you could also get them pink and purple toenail polish so she can tell them apart. I think that might be safer than a bracelet, IMO.

    This may seem lame...BUT

I have a stocking that I ADORE...it's one of those 3-d, poofty quilted ones that they sell in kits, my granny in law made mine years ago...they end up looking quilted/stuffed....with Santa or snowmen or whatever on them. They include sequins and ribbons and such along with instructions. My Mom has made one for each of my kids with their names on them and my kids LOVE them too. They are very special and unique...IMO.

If you got two of these similar but different you could put them together give them now, and then, once they are here and named you could put their names on them...they'd think of you every Xmas...and probably LOVE them once they're older!

ETA: Oh they're already named...well shoot this makes even more sense now Smile

ETA again...here's a LINK to what I mean.

You could get them ID bracelets.  I mean the ones that are engraved, not the beaded ones.  Tip: since the baby bracelets are so tiny, use a simple font, cursive or Victoria or something single lined.  Don't try script or anything fancy.  Cursive is the easiest, since it seems big and is close to printing so when they start reading its easier for them to read.  And don't try to fit too much on them.  First name only on the front for sure.

You could also get them a bank or a fork and spoon set, engraved with their names and birthdays etc.  Or a frame with places for each monthly photo during the first year.  There is usually a bigger frame in the middle for the newborn photo.  Likewise, a baby album in their colour, with a nameplate on the front would be nice.  Or a music box...I could go on and on.

I have boy/girl twins (now 2 1/2). Ther are some really cute onesies for twins out there. I had a set for mine that read (Baby A and the other said Baby B)--how they identify them on sonograms. Or t-shirts for twin moms are good too. I have a duble stranded bracelet--each row of beads spells out one of their names. The National Mother of Twins Club has a lot of links to vendors that specialize in twins.

If she is already not a member of a local twins club, suggest it. They are a great help, especially at the end of the pregnancy and the first few months when you feel like you will die.  Lastly, little things, like bringing meals, doing laundry for her, and otherwise trying to ensure that her job in life those first few weeks is only feeding the babies, holding the babies and getting sleep herself, mean the world to twin mothers.

I second this.  As a mom of two girls fairly close in age, I know how tough that is.  I can only imagine having twins.

Another idea for a keepsake could be two teddy bears for each of the girls with their birth stats on it. My step mom got one made for my daughter when she was born and its really cute, and child friendly. I tried to find a link online to show you, but I couldn't find anything. So here's a picture of my daughters so you can see what I'm talking about.

Oh my!  You guys have some really awesome ideas.  I only wish I was rich and coud do all of them.  Great idea about the meals, I think that would be really great for her...she isn't the healthiest eater.  She would live on McDonalds if she could afford to.  She is only 20, so I think she is going to need a ton of help.  But I am leaning towards the stocking idea and maybe the teddy bears.  Hmmm, so many great ideas...

Gina, if I order two of those stockings, can I make them look different or do they come with the same stuff?

you could leave off things or add things I suppose...but they do have MANY different sets...check a Hobby Lobby or some place like that so you can see them "in the flesh" One of the kids for ex is a lovely light blue and lilac color scheme with a snowman...they cuddle them every year before hanging them...it's so cute!
