    The other side of Kenya...

Kenya shows of her more spontanous, goofy, and even naughty side.

"C'mon, chase me NOW!"  "Go away, I watching for wabbits"

    "OK, then YOU chase me!"

"Fine, I'm coming to chase YOU!"

"Coke, don't look at the camera!  It will steal your soul!"

I'm not sure if I am getting mooned, or Kenya is trying to one-up my competitive gymnastics career

Showing off her "Fuss" (don't mind the camera angle making my legs look fat!)

    Zoomies

And Coke, well, he ONLY has a goofy, spontaneous side!

    Their softer side

Ditto that. Liesje, you need to post your top 10 rules for taking photos, so the rest of us can learn how to get better. Your photos rock!

Wow thanks!  Um.....the rules I go by are:

    • I really only use natural light, no flash.  I have a special external flash, but it's too much of a pain fiddling with for action/candid shots, so I really only use it for portraits.
    • I typically use the sport (fast action, low light, no flash) setting on both my current cameras.
    • My Panasonic camera has a good native lens, for a point-and-shoot SLR, and on the D40 I love the results I get with the Nikorr telephoto lens.
    • If shooting outside in sunlight, I use a polarizer filter and a lens hood.
    • I position myself so I'm not shooting toward the sun.
    • If there's a decent amount of sun, I stick to being in the shade, or being in the sun, but not both (like light bleeding through trees or half the dog in the shade)
    • I think my best dog action shots were all done after work when there was a decent amount of light, but it was a bit overcast so there weren't harsh washouts or dark shadows
    • I try to get down lower, at the level of the dog, so the shots are not all from a top angle.  Sometimes I even lay in the grass.
    • I don't use a lot of zoom if I'm holding the camera in my hand.  Unless I have a good lens and great light, it's hard to hold it perfectly still zoomed way in and get a clear shot.
    • If using auto or scene settings, I don't always point the camera at the dog.  Take Coke for example, he is a black dog so if I focus right on him, I might end up with an overexposed photo with the white balance off.  Sometimes I focus more on grass or scenery at the same distance as the dogs so I get the right exposure if I'm letting the camera choose.
You should talk to Gina!  She's got the goods AND the skills to back it up!

I can't decide whether the camera stealing soul pic is my favorite or the mooning one.

    Thanks for the tips!!

This must be what I am doing wrong with Lexi and Luna! Their white always comes out all weird and out of balance. I will try this later today.

    Thanks!
