Reply Contact He looks relieved.....lol.....I am sure he will have a good time at your vacation spot..........have fun..... Just to mention you can install a window unit to keep the dogs cool.........we actually added a window unit on top of the central to make sure the boys stay cool.......they don't cost a ton and are comfy for the dogs.......good luck.....

Reply Contact You can't tell me anything about humidity....lol....I live in the southeast these days........many folks in Michigan try to get by without air units.......just so silly, they run many fans just to keep somewhat cool....been there, done that........just a well placed air unit can help like crazy and avoid dangerous mold and other serious issues, not to mention a better and cooler climate for animals......

Reply Contact Humid is Dar es Salaam during the summer   We rent so some things are not left to choice.  I don't run fans until after dark, they just suck in hot air.  If we keep things shut during the day and keep the curtains closed, the house stays cool enough to be comfortable (high 70s).  Luckily we have a huge tree in the front yard and one adult tree = 8 air conditioning units.  Maybe the landlord's machine is old, I don't know, you can only plug it into one outlet (has a special plug) and that happens to be in a room where you are least likely to find an animal or human.  I've never had AC and the dogs only get really hot when they are outside, which is not subject to air conditioning.  Luckily they seem to be good at self-monitoring, if they are too hot they will stop and come in on their own, they don't overwork themselves and drink buckets of water. vankelderdogs.dutchbingo.net U-CH Alta-Tollhaus-Krieger Lamb Chop RA CL1-F CL1-R TT HIC TDI CGC (GSD) VPC's Coca-Cola CGC (All American) Alta-Tollhaus' Bono (GSD)

Reply Contact Oh Liesje good thing your young!  I couldn't live without air, my dog could but not me!!   I am 50 now and CANNOT stand the humiditly and can't imigion how you sleep at night darling.  We have central air (paid to have it installed 4 years ago) but it dosen't quite cool down the whole how the way I like it so I bought a window one for only alittle more than those shears and put it in our bedroom.  Set it on 68 and love every cool minute of it.  I must admit the dogs pile in the bed too.

Love the new sig See 68 is too cold for me.  When we lived in our apt. we had AC and set it for 78, but that was when DH was a landscaper 12 hours a day so I knew he needed to use it.  For us, 78 with little humidity is very comfortable.  Now we both work indoors (and DH in a patrol car).  It will get hot during the day but usually it cools off at night.  It got hot this week and will stay hot at night, but I have been sleeping under the comforter and sometimes with my down blanket on so far, just with a window fan running.  It's really only a week or two, three or four times a summer where it gets really bad and usually two of those weeks are while we are on vacation at the lake.  Nothing compared to camping in the Everglades over the summer or being in Dar es Salaam (in Africa on the Indian Ocean) during their summer.  This summer has been VERY mild, IMO.  Nothing like a few years ago when I had a giant cast on my leg and it was 100+ and humid for over a week!  The paint peeled off my walls.  That was BD - before dogs!   ETA:  See, it was 90s earlier but then a storm went through and now it's only 66.  ONE good thing about living in Michigan, I suppose.   vankelderdogs.dutchbingo.net U-CH Alta-Tollhaus-Krieger Lamb Chop RA CL1-F CL1-R TT HIC TDI CGC (GSD) VPC's Coca-Cola CGC (All American) Alta-Tollhaus' Bono (GSD)

Reply Contact Liesje: So anyone have an old pair they want to sell?   PM me an address, I'd be glad to mail you an "old" pair of thinners.  I've replaced the three super-cheapy-but-functional pairs  (they came with my shop) with a much nicer nice pair with notched teeth.  I haven't touched the old ones since.  I tested them out this morning, and they are TOTALLY decent, they are just not top of the line.  They are about 3 years old.  Let me know if you're intereted, they are free.  ETA:  Postage would be on you, though.  I AM a cheapskate. One-hundred bucks really isn't too much to shell-out for a pair of shears these days.  I use a straight, curve, thinner, and a small detailing shear on a daily basis, they ran from $125-$300 a piece.  Honestly, ya get what ya pay for, IMO anyway.  Some trivia: Les Poochs is an extremely upscale company that mainly markets to high-end pet owners.  They have shears listed at around $8,000.  Yes, you read that right.  I have one of their brushes, some cologne, and I've tried the shampoo/conditioner samples.  They are all excellent quality, but WAY overpriced, IMO.   ___________________________________ ALL generalizations are bad Jacob Visit my blog! http://thedapperdog.blogspot.com/

Reply Contact Just thought I'd add a lil tidbit that really seems to work well for me.  The little fine cottony hairs that some breeds tend to have on and around the ears are easily plucked out. You would not believe how much difference it makes in the overall appearance and the dogs don't seem to mind at all. Not to mention, the look last's alot longer and is much more natural looking.   As far as the hair around his chest, you could card that area well and it would "thin" it down some without having to cut it.
