Proheart 6 -- USA Today Editorial

Our view on drug safety: FDA vet tracks dog deaths, gets smeared in the process -- Tale of ProHeart 6 raises questions about who calls the shots at agency.

"The most troubling aspect of this is the effect it will inevitably have on other FDA safety officers. After seeing what can happen when someone gathers evidence that a drug is unsafe, what safety officers wouldn't think twice about risking their careers by antagonizing powerful companies?

That's a terribly dangerous way to run a drug safety process that can ultimately mean life or death to animals and humans alike."

I, for one, have already informed my clients that I think they should NOT use this drug, even with the new formulation, since there is a relatively benign and safe alternative.  Fort Dodge should not profit one iota from this drug - and if it does, the money should go to the owners whose dogs they killed the first time around, since they were so vociferous about trying to cover the problem up and take such actions against a scientist who was merely trying to get to the truth.  JMHO FWIW

Yep,,it sure is scary that a person working for us in the FDA would go thru this kind of thing and pretty much loose her job and credibility while trying to protect our dogs.

Sure makes you know how powerful the drug companies are.

It makes me not nearly as snobby about those commercials for personal injury lawyers looking for people harmed by particular substances or prescriptions.  It makes me mad not just for our pets but for US!  Who's protecting who here???  Geez!
