Should we or shouldn't we? **Updated!**

Test for the CGC that is!  I just found out there's going to be a test this weekend and I think Z should do well on all of it except walking on loose leash in a crowd and not being overexhuberant, especially since the test is at our agility facility.  She has the skills, it's just doing them in a distracting environment that's the issue.  I guess I'm wondering how precise we need to be - if it were a therapy pet test I'd know exactly what was expected, but CGC isn't as formalized ime.

Maggie tested years ago but I don't remember the details.

Even just taking the test is good practice ... there's no down-side if you don't pass.  It becomes a learning experience and a lot of dogs SEE the big deal made over the dog who passes and sometimes it makes the difference.

If I were you I'd take it, if just for the experience of doing it again.  Even if she doesn't pass, I'm sure you'll have fun doing it.  :)  I always jump at the chance to take Rafe anywhere or do anything with him because there just aren't many options around here.

Take it!  It's good practice!  Kenya has passed 3 times and has another one in a few weeks b/c the TDI test is basically a CGC.  Coke has done it once and failed.  My trainer recommends re-testing b/c often people work REALLY hard for the test but then after a few months, the dog's skills go to crap b/c it doesn't really matter any more.  And if you don't pass, you'll know exactly what you need to work on.  You'd be surprised at how different things can go down.  The item I was sure would not bother Kenya ended up being the hardest - greeting a neutral dog.  Usually she minds me and totally ignores other dogs, but for some reason she REALLY wanted to sniff the neutral dog and almost leaned out of position.  The thing I thought would be the hardest - 3 minute separation - was a total breeze.  I put her in a down stay and she didn't make a peep or move a muscle.

    do it!

even if she doesn't pass - you'll have a better idea on what to work on for next time! I want to get Casey's eventually, but we still have some work to do.... like with liking people and things. haha

    good luck Z puppy!!!

Re: Should we or shouldn't we?

I've been thinking the same thing!  Once I find out if it is offered around here closer than where I've found and where I don't *have* to take a training class along with it, we are going to do it too!  I had a thread from a month or so ago about it, it was moved to the training section but if you search you should be able to find it.  There was some helpful advice given there.

    Good luck!

Re: Should we or shouldn't we?

Thanks for all the input guys!  Of course now I may not be able to swing it; I just realized that the testing is happening at the same time as a class I'm teaching.  I've got an email in to the organizer to see if she thinks there will be enough people that I can come 60-90mins after the test starts and still get Z in.  Cross your fingers!!

Woo HOOOOOOO!  Z is now: Stardog's Can't Take the Sky, CGC!!!!!!!!!

She squeaked by on the LLW section because the training floor was so interesting and she'd been crated all morning, but we made it!
