    Dog House Plans(teehee)

Does anyone have any good doghouse plans?  I need to make dog houses for my two soon.  I want to give them somewhere to get out of the rain, though if he has his way, Crusher will just stay out in it.  I've reinforced the big kennel outside so they can't escape.  Well not yet anyway.  I'm going to have to bury some wire or something so they can't dig under when the ground thaws but that will come.  I'm also going to fence in the rest of my yard once the ground thaws.  I plan on laying patio stones over most of it, and I'm putting a pool out there for the summer, but I want to make sure the dogs aren't messing the yard up while its a work in progress.

The other thing is that we are getting our new carpets soon and I don't want the dogs on them.  Especially during the springtime.  Its warm enough out now, I think they will be fine staying outside.  Of course I'll still take them for walks and stuff and they'll get some time with me during nap time and stuff.

Anyway, I need some plans for doghouses.  If I make them slightly larger than they need will they stay cooler in the summer?  Or do the same rules apply for heat as for cold?

but when my Dad builds his he has a flat roof with built in footholds on teh side so the dog has a sun abthing roof-top area atop the house.....I'll see if I can dig up some plans for one but I had those two bookmarked. I like the 2nd design better but with the shingles on top from the first o plan

If I were going to build one, I would do this one. They're $30 for the plans, but if you're handy, you could design it yourself. You can see the interior view close to the bottom of the page. I love the idea of a wind wall for colder climates.

Thanks, those look great!  I'm kind of getting impatient to get them out.  They are both now blowing coats and I'm soooooo sick of vacuuming up dog hair.  I almost want to get them shaved, but the weather might dip still, and that would be mean I think.

I'm going to build straw bale dog houses for my pups when I get around to building their kennel runs. You can just use straw bales and leave them as is, cover them in plastic, or stucco them for a permanent dog house. I'm choosing this type of dog house because they are super insulated. http://www.sunmt.org/strawdog.html

Those are pretty cool.  They sound pretty easy too.  I wonder what they have for a base?

Oooh I love those 4iC. Those are really nice.

We have a 2-fer which is 1/2 shed, 1/2 dog house.  Its a 8x12 (If I remember correctly) backyard wooden shed.  DH split in 2 parts with a kennel panel (w/gate).  One one side is where he puts all his yard stuff; on the the other side is their dog house.  He had to cut a doggie door for them, obviously.  Its great because we have heat lamps in there for when its cold.  And, alternatively there is a fan and yes an air conditioner for when its hot.  DH also built a deck/porch for them on the side of the shed.  This is all within a 30x30 pen which we use when they need to be put up for whatever reason.

Buddy loves his house.  Heidi loves the deck.  Big Smile

I love the double entrance with the flower box, lol.  Wonder if the dogs care?  I dont think mine would go in a dog house unless I was in there with him. Ha!

    Re: Dog House Plans

BF plans on putting together a huge house for our three dogs, and smacking our swamp cooler on top - so that they have semi-air conditioned air in there.  I think it's sweet that he wants to do that!  We're installing new A/C for the house, so the swamp cooler either gets trashed, or used for the dogs.  Might as well Reduce Reuse Recycle for the benefit of our pups!

    Re: Dog House Plans(pssst....)

Gee, you guys are no fun.  Though I do appreciate the dog house plans, I was expecting someone to pick up on me banishing my dogs from the house.  But NOOOOOO!  Not one person bit.  Do you all know me too well, or are you remembering when Crusher escaped and made puppies?  LOL.  Perhaps you've only noted the date.

Happy April Fools anyway.Stick out tongue

I actually wondered about that when I saw your comment about hair on your new carpets!  Surprise

I was reading the thread, waiting, waiting, waiting.... and nothing.

Everybody must have forgotten that it's April 1. I didn't! I plotted and planned, and schemed. I helped steal my boss's keys, and one of the girls moved his car, then we had someone else put the keys back. When I left, he still hadn't found his car.

Haha, no problem.  It took me forever to think something up.  I couldn't possibly top Crusher's illegitamate brood 2 years ago.
