    Pomeranian Pride in MASSACHUSETTS

    Hello Everyone!

I'm eager to be apart of this forum! Can't wait to read from you all!

I am a proud Pomeranian owner! I spend most of my free time researching this breed to become an expert!

Later in life I would like to Show Pomeranians & Champion Breed.

If you own a Pomeranian (or any other toy dog) I would love to help you out with any tips and advice I can offer!

     Hi there Pom Pride!

I have a pom/peke mix I rescued. He is my first "little guy" and I could NOT love him more~~~His name is Godzilla and he is THE BEST. I hope to be owned by a real pom someday, but would not turn down another of these little guys if I found one!

    Pom/Peke MIX

What a BEAUTIFUL mix!! You are very lucky! I also give you kudos for the rescue! :o) I rescued a male Pom from a puppy mill and found him a good home. I find rescue dogs to have this certain personality that touches me.

Owning a pure bred always has its benefits; but I agree with you on the amazing find!

I'd be down to chit-chat any time about daily doggie stuff! Thanks for the comment!

Hello and welcome!   I am a pom owner too.  Benny was living in an indoor kennel for a year (from about 8 months old) before his owner finally decided to give him up.  I decided to take him in.  It was a rough start, but we took a training class and are now in our second AND he is finally potty trained after 8 months of stress and training.  We do love him and he is the funniest little guy.

GeorgAnne, Lady (beagle mix? - 15 Years), Max (GSD/cattledog - 10 years), Benny (pom - 4 years) - CGC, and Finn (lab mix) 8 months - CGC
    Buster - greyhound mix - 9/1994-2/7/09

Hi everybody with Poms. Aren't they great? We have two Poms & a Pekeapoo. They are some of the most affectionate dogs I've had. I haven't done alot of studying about them, just love them!! It'll be good to have somebody to compare notes with.(Ha!)  Just wanted to say Hi from Ohio.

    Re: Pomeranian Pride in MASSACHUSETTS

Hello from SW Pa.  I am excited to see you post.  I have just found myself the UNEXPECTED owner of a Pom puppy.  I have two Yorkies and a Shih Tzu.  I was not excited about the prospect of getting a Pom.  I have never considered getting one, and if one came available I always declined.  I had never met a Pom with a nice personality.  Even tho' that did influence my opinions about the breed, I always suspected it was (as with most breeds) more an owner problem than a breed problem.

I am very experienced with small dogs as well as large.  I got Pippin almost two weeks ago and I am pleasnatly surprised.  He is pleasant, smart, loving, loyal, obedient.... I could go on and on.  I am not seeing any of the Pom traits I have been so warned about.  I treat him like all of my other small guys, and he acts just like them.  When I Googled "Pomeranian" I got a couple of Pom sites that did not paint a very nice picture of the breed.  The more I researched, the more I realized that the challenges they put such a focus on are the same challenges that one would face with any small dog.

I am only "book" familiar with the breed.  I would love to hear any "insider" tips.  I have started Pippin like I do all of my dogs.  I take him to the groomer and vet whether or not he needs to go so he can see that many people will handle him for many reasons.  I take him visiting for the same reasons.  I also enforce that he needs to have manners at home and out.  My other dogs are great teachers too.

Are there any particular Pom traits that might start to develope as he matures?  I read that they are not cuddly or lap dogs.  They are independent and stubborn.  I don't want that, but that is not anything like the pup I have here.

Brief history:  A co-worker of mine bought Pippin as a birthday present for her mother.  The first week was fine, but weeks 2-3 and 4 just left the pup in a crate all day for 10 or more hours.  They decided that since the pup could not house train himself, they would like to resell him..... before I could find a buyer for them, they decided to GIVE him to me.  They know my dogs are very well cared for.  I have not sent in his registration yet.

    ....

    .

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd climb right up to heaven and bring you home again.

    Mdog59:

I am definitely going to be posting a nice Pom thread under breeds for you! I've got lots of "insider" tips and "corrections" to all the misleading things your read about or hear about with Poms. Like you said, it's an owner problem not a breed problem. Being a current toy/small dog owner you are all ready ahead of the game! Keep an eye out for some new threads of mine and if you ever want to chat direct let me know! Nice meeting you!
