LOL! Marlowe, you are too funny. Did you think your mama made you a gigantic stuffy? Big Smile

Maybe you could do it two-layered - a strong canvas layer over the foam, then a softer fabric on top? Maybe even have velcro strips or snaps along the edge so you can wash or replace the top layer without having to take the whole thing apart.

Genius!  I wish I could think of things like that.

Sorry Marlowe foiled your bed plan. I have used crib mattresses and pappasan cushions. Right now we are using double thickness egg crate. I just sew covers. Denim holds up really well. When they get bad I rotate them outside and get new ones for inside. For cheap fabric check out clearance priced sheets and tablecloths. Since the DaneHaven Boys also have their own couches I sew twin sheets together to use as couch covers.

Now I want a nice elevated bed for my dear Thor. And I'm happy because I have a lot of canvas fabric and even bluejean!! I love to do crafts so this is a very nice project to do. Maybe you can use the fleece to make a blankie? That way you can wash it everytime you want.

    Great ideas!

My sister also uses crib mattesses for her Danes. They fit great in the nice designer ex-large dog bed covers she got on clearance dirt cheap at Fosters & Smith. She's found that places like Pamida and Walmart often have new crib mattresses for as little as $20.

Another tip courtesy of my dad: My dad got sone nice beds from Cabelas but the stuffing flattened right away. He got some egg-crate foam mattress pads on clearance really cheap and cut them to fit inside the zippered dog beds. Even his fussy Vizsla will sleep on it now!

It's garbage day in our neighborhood and someone was throwing out their couch. Needless to say, I snagged the cushions. I brought them home and DH goes, "Oh, I see you got some new chew toys for Marlowe." Hmm

The way I've dealt with bedding shredding in the past (Conrad's usually the culprit) is to just remove the bed for a little while (a week or two) to break the habit.  But Marlowe needs something to lay on--the floor of his room is carpeted but it is a finished basement and underneath the carpet is cement and it's both cold and hard. So he got an old couch cushion and we'll see what he does with it.

Thanks for the laugh. I needed that.
