    Backpacking trip *very pic heavy*

Now that my doggy crisis is over, here's some pics from our Memorial Weekend backpacking trip. We had 7 people and 6 dogs (husky, aussie, wolf mix, chow mix, beagle mix and border collie mix - all high energy dogs!). The location was great. We camped in this valley which was surrounded by huge hills so the dogs could run around camp and not disturb anyone.  Just over one of the hills was Lake Michigan. We had a huge stretch of beach all to ourselves so, again, the dogs could run around unleashed without being a nuisance to anybody else.

We had campfires on the beach and enjoyed the sunsets. It's was a great time for dogs and people :) Enjoy!

    First, the campsite:

The dogs patrolled the hills every morning (this is Neiko) and the other is Rosie (BC mix) sticking her head out of the tent.

Then playing on Lake Michigan - these 3 became fast friends. Although Marley spent most of the time trying to hump Neiko

Looks like all the humans and furkids had a great time!  You are making me seriously jealous and miss packing in. We got an RV last summer just so that we could take the dogs easier, but it is WAY different than all the packing in and car camping we have done over the years. There is just such a great feel to it. I would rather camp than almost anything else.

    Thanks for sharing your pics![:)]

wow, those are some great pictures. Your Aussie is SO photogenic and gorgeous. I love Aussies, but I'm admittedly very picky about which ones I like...yours is jaw dropping! Love the one with his head in the sand [:D] And Luna and all the rest are gorgeous as well, I'm jealous, it looks like a blast was had by all!

This was at Nordhouse Dunes just north of Ludington. It's awesome and fairly close to home, which is good when gas is $3.60!

Yup, been there.  Where abouts do you live?  My favorite campgrounds are Platte River and the beach sites on South Manitou Island.  I wonder if they allow dogs on the ferry to the island....

No dogs are allowed on the Islands. Actually no dogs are allowed in the backcountry on the mainland either. They are allowed on 6' leashes on most of the trails, but not for any of the backcountry campsites. Also, I don't think they are allowed at the beach at Platte River. But they are allowed at DH Day campground beach.

I love Sleeping Bear - it is my absolute favoirte park in MI. Pictured Rocks would be #1 if it wasn't for the bears and how far away it is.
