How many of you have a pet insurace for your doggie?

I am currently trying to decide whether to have a pet insurance like Trupanion. What do you think about it?

I have PetPlan.  I love it, & I will never have another pet without it!

I have Petplan, too, for my two youngest dogs.  I have yet to need to file a claim, but it's nice to know it's there and their coverage and ratings by users can't be beat as far as I can tell.  I looove that it covers congenital conditions and as long as you keep your coverage current it will cover continued expenses for a chronic condition, unlike many other plans.

Amanda, I bookmarked the link. I've been thinking of insurance since Jessie was in the ICU with pneumonia, and Pet Plan looks like a very good possibility.

Janice, we have Bevo on the "gold" plan.  It covers up to $20K per year.  Last year, after dealing with him taking a header into a tree, fractured ribs, a fractured shoulder, a wobblers diagnosis, an autoimmune issue, along with his yearly bloodwork & echocardiogram,  I can say that they are a GREAT company to work with.  My claims were handled quickly, & without issue.  I highly recommend them!

We have PetPlan for 2 cats and a dog.  So far, only have filed claims for one of the cats and everything was handled wonderfully.  We had VPI previously and they were great too.

I have the purina plan for Luke. On the 17-18th, he spent the night at the e-vet. I got the reimbursement yesterday. I have the $500 deductible. I'm going to probably up the deductible next year, but I couldn't be happier with that.

Amanda, I've been thinking about PetPlan, too, especially for Molson and all his anal and allergy issues. One of our friends uses them with their puppy Lab, but he doesn't have any issues and is perfectly healthy (knock on wood). Does it matter which vet you use? Or pre existing issues (like the anal issues and allergies)?

I really wish i could but i cant afford it, and my parents wont pay for it. Bailey is pretty healthy and really hasnt had any big medical bills (except for heartworm treatment 5 years ago when we adopted him..) but it would still be nice to have, just incase. He will probably get on some type of plan once i graduate high school and can get a full time job so i can afford it.

    They don't cover pre-existing conditions. :(

I am SURE that there is a way to get around that...

The Purina Care plan covers hereditary, and I have the one for Luke that covers preventative stuff. They have a plan that doesn't, but given that he's a cavalier, hereditary is pretty much a given. They reimburse me 80% after the deductible, up to $20,000. It's expensive, but really, I can't afford the e-vet bills. That night was $988, but I got back $794.

WOW!  Sounds like a great plan! I'll definitely have to look into it. I've wondered over and over how reputable the companies are that do the insurance, but it sounds like lots of people have had good experiences...I don't see any negatives on here...so I'm gonna check into it this week!  Great question to post here!

Re: How many of you have a pet insurace for your doggie?

I know that this is an older thread, & it appears that a spammer started it, but I thought that I'd share our recent experience with those interested.

As most of you know, Brutus was diagnosed with AIHA last week.  Wednesday night, we spent $1473.84 at an e-vet.  I submitted our claim on Thursday.  Last night, DH called me to let me know that we had recieved a check from our insurance company in the amount of $1326.45 for the e-vet visit.  We have a $500 deductible, which we have already met, & we pay 10%.

I was amazed that they handled the claim so quickly, though they handled Bevo's claims in the same quick fashion.  On top of a very quick turnaround, I recieved a phone call this morning from one of their reps.  He called to see how Brutus was doing, & to see if there was anything that they could do to help.

I am thrilled with their service, & just wanted to share.
