Re: Weight Loss Help Ideas (mrstjohnson)

I went to the Daily Plate and put in my height (5'6") and weight (115) and selected moderately active and it says I can eat 1898 calories a day to maintain my current weight. I don't think I eat close to that on most days.

Re: Weight Loss Help Ideas (mrstjohnson)

Over the summer the company that my employer uses for health insurance did these free consultations on BMI, water percentage, etc.  What was cool is that they could take exact height/weight and percent water measurements, I would tell them how much/long of what type of exercise I do or want to do, and they'd calculate how many calories I needed to eat.  It was much, much more accurate than the online calculators I've done and also was true to the weight loss I'd already accomplished (the numbers matched up, based on what I'd been tallying in my food journal and what the nutritionist originally recommended).  I was worried that I don't drink enough water b/c everyone always says to drink water nonstop to lose weight, but if I quit soda I drink maybe 2-3 glasses of water a day total and don't feel thirsty or dehydrated.  They said my percentage of water in my body fell perfectly within the desired range so now I don't feel so strange about barely drinking anything (and often what I do drink is because I remind myself to do it).

Liesje - you're close to the same size as me, so what do you think is your daily requirement for calories to maintain your weight?

I've gained a bit this fall from stress and my machine being out of comission, but when I was 125 I could maintain with eating 1800-2000/day (that was *without* my daily 45+ min cardio, I would say that would be with 1-3 times a week intense cardio, otherwise just walking the dogs a few times a week).  When I am in "weight loss mode" I try to eat 1500-1800 a day, do 5-6 cardio workouts 45-60 minutes each, and lose 1-2 lbs a week (well when I first start it's more like 3lbs a week, then tapers off to 1 or so as I get back to a slimmer, more active weight).

That's a cool website, but I do question my results.  It said to maintain 120 lbs (at moderately active)...2110 calories a day???  Woah!!

It was better when I put in if I wanted to lose weight (I was curious what that would come out to be...I don't *think* I need to lose 15 lbs, lol).  I put in that I wanted to lose 15 lbs at 2lbs per week, and it said 1250 calories a day.

According to their "how do I choose Activity Level", I fit the "Lightly Active" lifestyle, so that I can add on walking to the train, biking to the park, taking the dog for a walk, etc:

From their website: Example: If your job has you up on your feet most of the day and you take the stairs a few times each day, you'd probably want to choose the "lightly active" or "moderately active" lifestyle. [That's me!] Then, if you workout twice a week for an hour on the elliptical machine, track that exercise separately, since it's "above and beyond" your daily activity level that you set.

In order to lose 2lbs/week, I get less than 1100 calories a day.  As I get closer to my goal, I get less than 900.  Guess that means a whole lotta working out.

I probably should've selected "slightly active" then. That would make more sense.

Less than 900 calories??? Yeah, I don't think I could manage that for more than a day or so.

You can eat more calories than that, but you have to offset it with exercise, so that becomes your net.  But, seriously... ugh.  I'm not looking forward to that.  I hover too close to 1200 versus 1090 as it is.

mine there was 1885. No idea how much or little that is. But I used the tool at Dominos to calculate my lunch and it was 1246 sans drink. I had a cup of coffee for breakfast with cream and sugar...and who knows what dinner will be. I probably make it tho...at least before my nightly dessert run LOL.

Lol I tried it for fun and at Moderate exercise to maintain my weight of 97 pounds at 5'5" I can eat 2007 calories.  I've never counted calories though so I'm not sure what I currently take in.

Re: Weight Loss Help Ideas (mrstjohnson)

I use fitday.com right now.  You can log your food, exercise, etc and it gives you calories to eat each day, etc. the one thing I like it give you RDA vs. what you are eating to see where you need to change diet, etc.  Probably about the same thing.  I really like it since it has a TON of food choices for the food log, plus it's totally free!

Well, at swimming tonight we stayed a little longer and I pulled Riley around with her kick board and did some lifts with her...at 27 lbs I figure that would work out the arms pretty good.  I figure if I do that twice a week that would be a good start at least.

What about wearing wrist weights while I am doing my walking?  I am trying to slowly up the speed in order to get to a full run eventually.  I have a nerve tumor in my foot right now that is being treated so hopefully once that's gone I will have less foot pain and will be able to run faster/longer.
