    Crate Covers UPDATE!

Does anyone have or sewn a crate cover for their crates?  I have wire crates, one is 36" for the girls and the other is 24" for Gobie who is not a happy sharer of space. I have measurements written down and a drawing. I've also looked at fabric and am pretty sure I have a couple picked out. I'm pretty excited as this changes it from ugly "cage" to something much nicer I think.

Of course, I would like to have matching crate pads- 2 for each crate- one to use and the other to wash LOL

I must remember to prewash the material so that shrinkage is minimal.

    Thoughts? I'm excited!

We used to have crate covers, but Shooter decided to eat them. Hmm

Seriously though, you probably want to supervise after putting on the crate cover.  Shooter was used to being crated, & had never had any issues in the crate, but he hated the cover.  He would pull it through the wire & chew it.

    Re: Crate Covers

I had my sister custom sew one for me.  The inside is a plain beige fabric (similar to a bedsheet) and the outside is a thicker black fabric.  It has a flap that can cover the door, or be rolled up and tied back.  If the dog is in the sun, I turn it inside out so the light fabric faces out.  I really love it, one of my absolute favorite and oft-used dog supplies.  Kenya likes to have a "den", and I also use it on my 36" crate a dog shows/trials. I put the flap down so the dog can sleep and not be constantly distracted by all the other dogs walking by.

Sounds like fun!  And I'm sure your little furries are going to love feeling all safe and snuggly!  I have some I guess what you would call "Sportsman" style covers, and they have pockets on the outside which we don't use when we're at home...but when we travel they are SO worth it!  I pack everything from treats to poo bags to leashes and collars...anything we need while heading to the Northwoods of Wi, or to grandma's house!  Maybe if you are doing some sewing...if you travel a bit, or just need some places to keep some extra things hidden, but handy...some pockets would be nice!  2 of mine are velcro, and one is a zipper.  I just love that feature!  If I ever clean off all the junk on top of them (yes laundry)...I'll have to take a pic to show you! lolStick out tongue

    Re: Crate Covers

Wow Leisje, thank you for sharing a pic, that looks great!

Mine are going to be made from the heavier material used to make curtains. It's going ot be reversable as well, with a burgundy print on one side, and a solid burgundy on the other for Lexi and Darby's house. And then Gobie's is a blue print with a solid blue on the other side.  They are used to having their crates covered. I've been using just a blanket tossed over but it would be nce to have something more formal looking.

For travel, we have 2 pop up crates, very light material like used for kites, but they are good about not chewing them or anything.  THey have their own duffel bag for travel :)

    Rubyandstewie'smom, I'd love to see a pic :)

Phew, I"m glad I'm not the only one! LOL!  Right now I've got 2 pairs of shoes, a pile of clean dog blankets (laundry), some books that need to be donated and a rubbermaid full of baby clothes to give to my sister!  I knew I shouldn't have put both of my pooches crates together...just WAY too much useable space...but at lease I'm not the only one.  You guys make me feel so much better now! LOL!
