    Re: Unique girls' names (janobonano)

I actually like Tuesday!  The woman who helped us buy my wedding flowers was a Tuesday.  I also like Willa (or Willem for a boy) but obviously taken.  My other faves are also rather unique, most of them simply because they are Dutch:

    • Marijke (mah-rye-keh) - Dutch
    • Maaike (micah) - Dutch, female form of Micah
    • Petra (pay-trah)
    • Ja-el or Ja'el (jay-elle)
    • Justine
    • Jantina (yahn-teen-ah) - Dutch, and I like Jantie or Tina for short
    • Jacoba - Dutch
    • Marijn - Dutch
Some of the other names in this thread I like are Taryn, Anna, Ava.

I'm not big on the surnames-as-girls-names bandwagon (MacKenzie, Reagan, Kennedy, etc), I don't like super Irish/Celtic/Gaelic names, and I don't like most names than end with the "eee" sound.  I used to love Jordan but now it's so over used. Maybe Jordana instead?

We have a young cousin named Elsa.  My other family and friends have named kids Mia, Gianna, Brianna, Alyssa and Calleigh.

    I also really like Ava.

I like Emery, but I'll probably never get to name a kid that.  I'll probably have to use it on some sort of pet insteadStick out tongue

    The latest was Ariel Ick!

    Hey, now! Wink

Actually, Aerial is my horse's name...I stole my username from her.  I wouldn't name a person that, though.

I tend to like more old-fashioned names.  I think if I had a girl I'd name her Molly, middle name Elizabeth (my mom's middle name).

My mom told me she wanted to name me Gwyneth (before it was a "famous" name, of course), but my dad said no way.  So they gave me a stupid common airhead sounding name instead.  Thanks mom & dad!

Someone suggested Annalise.  I like that alot. Yes

I also like Margaret (Maggie for short).  Not an unusual name, but you don't find that many Margaret toddlers running around.

My moms favorite movie is Gone With the Wind. She wanted to name me Katie Scarlett O'Hara Haley. Thank dog for my dad! Its now Tiffany Scarlett Haley. I like the name Kaylee. Tuesday reminds me of Wednesday from the Addams Family.

My grandgirls have some unique names:  Zoe Shasta (yes, Shasta); Zia (pronounced with a long I) Star; and Aurora Ivy.  Ivy is a family name.

    I love Katie Scarlett...

    Re: Unique girls' names (janobonano)

Thanks for the ideas, everyone! I added a couple more to the list tonight: Josephine (Josie), Keziah/Kesiah, and Kellan. And Shea/Shay for a middle name option.

    Unique/Less popular names for girls...

Bliss, Cherica, Ashlyn, Sadie, Piper, Lucy, Hazel, Mallory, Jacee, Macy/Macie, Adia, Mae, Nora, Laney, Taryn

I like Piper & Hazel. Macy used to be one of my favorite girls' names but now I don't like it as much.

    Jason L:
How did he come up with a racial slur for Kaia Azalea? I am trying to come up with possibilities but nothing. It's like a riddle LOL!

He thought it sounded Asian. Huh?

    miranadobe:

Ava is starting to get over-played, too.

Yeah, I like Ava but it was #6 on the most popular list last year.

Actually my niece, who is 5 weeks older than Willa, is named Margaret. I like Margo and Mae, but it would be too close.

I like Kellan a lot. It's different, never heard of it before. I also like Kelly (my neighbors daughters name).

We just had a cat turned in today with the name Acelyn. I thought that was very pretty, and unique!
