    Re: How often...

I haven't completely changed litter in about 18 months.

Now, before anyone goes ewww yucky yucky nasty, let me explain.

I follow this method of litterbox maintenance.  It involves scooping at least twice a day, including cleaning/disinfecting any stuck-on residue with a bleach solution.  It works great for us.  The litter actually stays cleaner than it did before, when I changed it at least once a month.  It's not for everybody, as it requires more time each day to maintain, and the self-discipline to keep up with it.  But I much prefer doing thorough daily maintenance/cleaning than having to change out all that litter once a month or more.

Every few weeks, but I probably don't scoop as often as I could and I'm just lazy, sometimes I'd rather just dump it all than scoop all of the boxes.

    Re: How often...

I change the litter once a week.  I scoop whenever necessary throughout the day.

    Re: How often...

I change out completely every week or two with at least one daily scooping (or more often if the darn cat decides not to cover up his solid deposits :P) - litter boxes gross me out and I am very sensitive to odor.

    Re: How often...

i have 5 cats and 4 litterboxes (no room for others) so I do a complete change and scrub with water/bleach solution every other week but I rotate the EOW. I have 2 I do one week and the other 2 the following week that way I'm not having to put all new litter in them in the same week.

This is a habit I developed with fostering....the bleach solution is to get rid of any potential parasites a foster might bring in. We do deworm them as SOP but one can never be too careful especially with a couple of my cats getting up there in years. I do integrate the fosters with my own cats after a week or so (depending on the personality of the foster) so everyone is sharing litterboxes.

I scoop daily or whenever there is an especially vicious pooh in the box. When I was using Worlds Best litter (one of my cats refused to pee in it so I couldn't continue using it) I was able to scoop and reuse the litter that in the box mixing it with new litter. That litter is great but my Dixie would pee beside the box rather than in it and I did a slow change over. So I had to go back to the old stuff. I did like Worlds Best though - lasted longer
