  Salt content in treats, bones and chewy things Reply Contact I need to keep Dublin's salt level steady and not cause a big increase in it.  I noticed on treats it does not give that information.  I am guessing pig ears, hickory basted bones and basted bones in chicken broth would be saltier.  I have no clue what to look for on labels.  Our vet said stick with the more natural colored unflavored items.  He of course loves his basted ones.  I guess we will have to forego them for now.  Sigh....poor guy has so few "highlights" to his week.  I hate taking one away!

  Re: Salt content in treats, bones and chewy things Reply Contact You wonder what sort of ingredients are in those basted ones?  Since they don't have to list the actual ingredients, who knows what's actually in them, you know? Could be anything... cold be a preservative, flavoring (msg is not a nice ingredient to ingest), colorings, etc. I try to stay away from those, but I do get the pig skin twists, the only thing my dogs will chew besides RMBs.   Shamrockmommy Furmom to Gobie the minpin terror, Lexi and Darby the bichon girls

  Re: Salt content in treats, bones and chewy things Reply Contact  I don't know about the store bought bones and treats for dogs.  I would imagine they are using mostly whatever is cheap which would include preservatives and other ingredients you would not want.   My dog has many allergies and it was hard to find a cookie he could eat.  We found some at a place called Dancing dog cookies on the web that offered there cookies made with different kinds of flours.  We have ours made out of Spelt.  It has not bothered  my boy since.
