Oh, you know they are! And closed toe! And the wedding is in JULY! Talk about uncomfortable...

And BTW, she wants everything ordered by at least the first week in November so it's here ASAP.....ugh......

    Re: Outrageous!

Wow.  And I thought I asked a lot of my bridesmaids, but I picked a color at David's Bridal and just asked them to match it... it was periwinkle/bluish, so theoretically if they got a skirt with a top they might have been able to wear it again, although it wasn't the best color it wasn't totally ugly either.  I had 3 girls, and all were various sizes and shapes, so no one dress would do it for them.  And I couldn't care less about shoes or hair or whatever, as long as they had them :)

I almost... almost... used a white homecoming dress for a wedding dress.  Then the girls made me try on dresses at DB and decided that would be their wedding present to me, was one of the (sale!) dresses.  It was beautiful, but I did spend more on alterations than they did on the dress.

We were all young, and broke, so they didn't even really have obligations like parties and showers and such since WE lived out of town!  I mean, we did things, but nothing extravagent or whatever.

We financed nearly the entire wedding ourselves, with everything we wanted, for roughly $7000.  With a buffet dinner and open bar for 80 people, and flowers and DJ and invitations and photography and all the hoopla involved. It was really  nice, but I STILL thought it was pricey, and we're on the lower end of a "normal" wedding.  We did do JP in an outdoor gazebo, too.

Vivienne Westwood - Anglomania + Melissa Lady Dragon Bow Red Shoes

They're very similar to these ^ but with a closed toe.

Maybe it's an age thing, but Ick!. I'm pretty sure that those won't get a lot of use after the wedding.

Those shoes are hideous and remind me of ruby slippers. Who would pay $150 for those things!? Are the dresses going to be red?

Maybe I'm a jerk, but I think that if you expect people to wear a $300 dress, that they can never use again, to your wedding, especially if you know some people may not be as financially capable as you are, you should pay for the dresses.
I really, really don't get why the bridesmaid dresses and groomsmen tux rentals aren't just part of what the wedding costs to the bride and groom. When/if I get married, I will definitely be factoring those things into my budget. I was my sister's maid of honor, and one of my cousin's bridesmaids, and I had to buy the stupid dress both times. Neither wedding was extravagant, and neither couple had a big budget, but still..

I'm still a little bitter about having $250 or $300 worth of dresses I think the one for my sister's wedding was like $120, and my cousin's was $160ish, but I'm not sure.) hanging in my closet, never to be used again (one is a ridiculous shade of hot pink, & quite tulle-y and sequin-y...- and the other is a pretty, halter, dark blue evening-gown-type dress that I will just never have a place to wear).

Luckily though, neither bride gave a rat's behind what shoes we wore, as long as they were somewhere close to the same color as the dress (both dresses were full-length. I think I spent $8 or $10 on each pair, lol. Got them both at this bizzaro cheap shoe store around the corner. They sell mostly hooker-looking shoes, but once in a while you can find something halfway decent). ;-)

    Re: Outrageous!

Since you're not close with her, I'd really seriously consider telling her that you simply cannot afford to have both you and your DH in the wedding, at this rate.  Bow out now so she can get someone else to take your place, if she wants to.  Judging by how ugly those $150 plastic shoes are, and the fact that she chose a $300 ugly dress in red (pppsst, it's incredibly difficult to match reds, so that's a really stupid thing to get red dresses and red shoes for a wedding), she's not really considerate of her bridesmaids.  I wouldn't doubt that it's only going to get worse from here.  Not like a bride (who's forcing people to order bridesmaids gowns in Nov for a July wedding) will generally lighten up closer to the wedding...

Now I want to see the dress, too.  Those shoes scream of someone wanting to relive 40's pin up girls.  (My first thought was 40's prostitutes!)  Cute for a costume, not cute to force your bridesmaids to buy.

The dress is a full length, red, empire waist, strapless number with a BIG bow in the front (like the shoes, ugh).

    Re: Outrageous!

Blech!  Age showing again, but RED was always the color for the "scarlet" woman.  Sure not a top pic for a wedding!

Give me a break with the shoes!  Those look like some seriously high heels and some seriously NARROW toes. My feet would rebel before I could get down the aisle!

    WOW!!

The only use that I can think of for those shoes would definitely not be "wedding appropriate" Surprise  They would finish off a dead hooker or French maid Halloween costume quite nicely.

I think that I would gracefully bow out.  I'd just tell the bride that I really couldn't afford to spend that much on the dress & shoes while also having to pay for the tux for your DH.  Since the groom is your DH's friend, obviously, your DH's participation in the wedding is more important than yours.  (At the least, that would get you out of having to wear those horrendous shoes, & what sounds like a very ugly dress as well!)

I am soooo going to use the term "scarlett woman"!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Re: Outrageous!

Oh. . .my. . .God. . .those shoes???  And, big bows on things are from the 80's.  You know maybe if you do call her you could talk her into the bridesmaids also getting something from David's Bridal.  My bridesmaids and my junior maid all wore the same color but they have those mix/match tops so everyone can get one that looks good on them.  And, you can mix/match the skirt too if she wants.  And, they can make the maid of honor stand out with a shawl or gloves or something like that.  All three of my maids wore it again--on cruises.   And, my sister in law got ours there too and my friend borrowed it to wear at a Christmas party later that year.

Honestly, that color is not even a nice red.  She should wait anyway, they will have so many pretty spring/summer colors out closer to her month.

I wore red in one July wedding.... with TEN bridesmaids.  That was the biggest bridal party I've ever been in.  Red actually looked good almost all 10 of us.  However, it was a deep apple red, not cherry-pickin'-prostitute red.

Holy mother of dog, those are gross shoes. (Sorry, that is so mean, but they really are hooker/stripper shoes!) Can you recycle them after the wedding?

If you know her Maid of Honor, maybe you could talk to her to see if she can get the bride on a more reasonable page. I've been a maid of honor a number of times, and part of that job is keeping the bride in line for all the other Maids.

I don't think anyone's showing their age in regards to those shoes...ugly is ugly, and those shoes are fugly!

Stephanie, have you decided what you're going to do yet?
